Thread: An HIV-Positive Muppet

uralooser i totally disagree with you, you're thinking within a closed box, open your mind and give logic and rationality a chance. Evolution has holes yes, but they're minute and what do you think is more credible? Believing in something that is supported by those who actually know what they're talking about or something that people 2-3,000 years ago thought up to explain why the things that happen in our world are now explained (and were explained by those who support ATHEISM) You're choosing to believe in something that has absolutely NO incurrable data. Btw...read about something called mithra . That will give you your explanation for christianity. Research something before you choose to base your entire lifestyle around it, you're leaping before looking. You probably don't even know about where the origens of the concept of god even came from (which I would gladly explain if anyone's interested in hearing). Basically what i'm sayin' is think before you act. Christians remind me of people walking around in a mall somewhere and hearing some guy standing on a podium selling magic potions that he "guarantees" will make you happy. It's the placebo effect. Think on it.

first of all, JP, your argument was outstanding. i love religious debate. so much so, that the roving religion salesmen wont come to myu door anymore as i occupy about an hour at least of their time and most of them go away confused and afraid of their religion. heck, not to brag, but i got a pastor to quit the cloth.

second, back to the whole muppet AIDS thing, has anyone ever seen "Meet the Feebles" A movie by Peter Jackson, the guy who did "Tasteless" and "Dead Alive" If you havent, it is essentially a real life version of the muppet show, with all of its unsavory bits. for example, the main attraction, a rabbit, is diagnosed with AIDS and everything goes downhill in his life from there. it is a very distruding flick, but im into those....
    heres a link: http://www.ween.net/feebles/

Well, no muppets on the show are in a relationship, and in reality, it seems that most of them are supposed to represent younger "people". So, I don't think ANYONE, myself included, would like to see sexually active muppets on sesame street, in any form, haha.

However, it certainly wouldn't be a bad idea to have a kid on the show that has "2 mommies" or "2 daddies". Whether the christian conservatives like it or not, gay men and women are becoming more and more comfortable in our society, which means you will start seeing more and more gay and lesbian couples that decide to raise children together. Certainly, it would be a good idea to get children comfortable with this new form of family, before they enter the public school system.

In my honest opinion, children grow up to be closed minded through their parents. When they see something new, they usually ask their parents about it. If you have a parent saying two men together as FGS, the child is going to pick up on that. I would like to pull a comment out of JP's post.

JP, I couldn't agree with you more on this subject. If children are exposed to this early in life, in a positive manner. The chances of children growing up being ashamed of having two same sex parents will be alot lower and the chances kids teasing on children in this situation will lower substantually... JP should call PBS and make the suggestion himself.....

As much as I like seeing the positive discussion and sharing of opinions on the subject. It is great to see this thread is still in circulation. I just have one point I would bring up, I believe seasme street is a great children show, keeps the children entertained, teaches numbers, letters, words, and manners. However, should they really be teaching about lifestyles, and illnesses? Should we have a muppets grandmother pass away from cancer? Should they have a young child with lukemia? I don't think any of this is funny if that is what you are thinking, but it happens every day, and children have to face it. Where should seasme street draw the line?

Well, I don't think they should do it, although it does have some sound logic underneath it.
Having subject's like that on Children's TV will undermine the choice of the parent, Although I feel that a child should be told the truth at an early age so he/she does not end up gettign the fact's wrrong, but then again, I may not feel that way when it's MY child...
    ......To each, his own.

    Well, I'v used up my 2 cent's so buh-bye

Undermine the choice ofthe parent? I would say the parent still has the choice to lets say TURN THE TV OFF. Imagine that, maybe read a book to thier kid or play with their kid or just in general have their kid doing something more constructive then watching TV.

I say if they keep off the topic of sex in relation to HIV the muppet maybe a good educational tool, its worth a shot anyways.

I think that it's a good thing. It will raise awareness so that persons with AIDS are not looked upon as some evil whatever that came out of a crack infested alley. Persons with AIDS are people too. Period. They are hetero and homosexuals, men and women, children and adults, blacks and whites. AIDS does NOT discriminate who it gets. So neither should we discriminate against them.
Resistance is futile, prepare to be assimilated.
