Arafat threw a wrench in the works in '93 when he denied the Oslo offering of 90% of what he was asking for
A little correction is needed here(but I do agree with everything else you pointed). Arafat was given PEANUTS! It was by no means a a generous offer as our media CONSTANTLY portrays it to be. It was a humiliating offer that would have turned the West Bank into Bantustans. Here's a link to what was offered to the Palestinian people by courtesy of Gush Shalom(an Israeli human rights organisation) http://www.gush-shalom.org/media/barak_eng.swf
As of 2/13/01 , number of Palestinians killed since the beginning of the new Intifada: 368
Number of Palestinians killed under the age of fifteen : 56 [ 15.2%]
Number of Palestinians killed over the age of fifty : 20 [ 5.4% ]
Number of Palestinians murdered by Israeli security forces AFTER being captured , or simply shot at close range without any provocation
whatsoever: 32 [ 8.7%]
Number of Palestinians murdered by Israeli settlers: 22 [5.9%]
Number of Palestinians who died because they were not allowed to get
medical treatment: 8 [ 2.1%]
Percent of Palestinians killed who were NOT involved in demonstrations or clashes: 44%
Ratio of Palestinian civilians killed to members of the Palestinian
security forces killed: 9 to 1
Number of Palestinians who were officially targeted for assassination
by the Israeli Army: 10 [3.68%]
Number of innocent bystanders who were killed during these
assassinations: 5
Number of human beings who were either killed or injured by
"terrorist acts masterminded" by the most recent Palestinian to be assassinated by the Israeli Army: 0
Number of journalists either shot at or beaten up by Israeli soldiers or settlers: 44
Percent of Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances hit by live ammunition: 68%
Number of cases in which Palestinian ambulances were not allowed to
go through a roadblock: 109
Number of Olive trees and Fruit trees uprooted: 25,00

Israel since it existed from biblical times have never really taken prisoners, this is not the way they fight... IMHO i think there is enough land for everyone, but here is another point if the native americas wanted to reclaim the land that was stolen from them how much would the U.S look like the palestian gov? where not the plains Indains nomadic? the fact that the jews were nomadic does not mean they don't have a right to be there. I just pray and wish this problem will workout in a fair way for all parties involved!

Each side can throw around numbers....how many Palestinians MURDERED by Israeli soldiers...how many Israeli civilians killed by Palestinian MURDER bombers (just calling it as I see it)...but it doesn't change the fact that it isn't right. Until one or both sides drops this 'an eye for an eye' mentality there will be no peace. This applies to every situation, not just this one.

For Mahakaal
You seem to have a pretty good understanding of the Palestinians position, so let me ask you. What exactly will it take to make them happy, maybe happy is a poor choice of words no one living today will ever be happy with what’s happened there. What will pacify Arafat and the Palestinian people?
Bukhari:V3B48N826 “The Prophet said, ‘Isn’t the witness of a woman equal to half of that of a man?’ The women said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘This is because of the deficiency of a woman’s mind.’”

To Tedob1,
What will pacify Arafat and the Palestinian people?
Arafat I could care less about, he's nothing but an icon from the 70's thru 80's. And I'm sure a LOT of Palestinians would agree with me there. Now to your question..what will pacify the Palestinian people? The question is loaded with implication, the implication being that Palestinian people are by nature aggressive. But I wont get into technicalities here.
Palestinians would like to have a place that they can call their own, much like the Jewish people did after WW2. Where they can raise their children in peace, exactly like the Israelis would like to.Without being harassed on the way to work, without having their houses demolished and so on and so forth.
What was done to the Jewish people by the Nazis was absolutely horrible and appalling. But one can not expect to correct one injustice with another, and not expect to have any repercussions. But that is exactly what the British and other western nations did.
To make a long story short, the Israelis need to end their illegal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza(How one can have a country with another country in the center is another matter).
Remove all settlements from said areas(which are by the way illegal under the Geneva Conventions) and then there will be peace. No doubt there will be crackpots on both sides but it wont be as violent as it has been in the recent past.
But powers that be really dont want to end the conflict. The Middle East is the biggest importer of arms. Where there is war, there are profits to be made at the expense of innocents.
I leave you with a quote,
"Jewish villages were built in the place of Arab villages. You do not even know the names of these Arab villages, and I do not blame you because geography books no longer exist, not only do the books not exist, the Arab villages are not there either. Nahlal arose in the place of Mahlul; Kibbutz Gvat in the place of Jibta; Kibbutz Sarid in the place of Huneifis; and Kefar Yehushu'a in the place of Tal al-Shuman. There is not one single place built in this country that did not have a former Arab population."

To make a long story short, the Israelis need to end their illegal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza
This is just a slogan. It is more useful to ask how they came to
occupy these lands in the first place. Israel wasn't waging a war of
aggression in 1967, and they weren't fighting against the Palestinians,
but against Egypt, Jordan and Syria.
The west bank was part of Jordan, but Jordan refuses to take the territory
back, so there is no responsible government willing to rule it in a normal
fashion and establish law and order.
The Gaza strip was ruled by Egypt, and likewise, Egypt will not take it back
so there is no one but the PLO who wants to rule it.
For nine years, Israel negotiated with the PLO, to withdraw
and go home. One condition. They insist that the newly formed
Palestinian state recognize the right of the Jewish state to
exist within recognized borders.
The Palestinians must abandon the hope of abolishing the state
of Israel If they will make that one concession, everything else
can be negotiated.
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

In responce to the original thread, I think this is a great example of how the battlefield can and has moved into cyberspace. Yes, Isreal might be a dominate force in cyberspace in the region of the middle east, although I feel that the potiential is there for moving into other areas of hacking besides just basic site defacing, I would not be surprised if you pulled up the nytimes.com and read an article about an Isreali military base that was hacked, or an isreali hacker phreaking a top officials cell phone. I feel that the battle field of the future will have two fields, the one where bullets are flown, and the one where bits are flown.
As for the palastinian/Isreali thing..Ive been following it ever since it first started and all I have to say is...If Sharon did not enter that mausq (sp?) with an armed guard, none of this would have happened.
Tosses his two cents in a bucket.
See dick... see dick hack yahoo...see dick go to jail... dont be a dick.

I think if they consolidate all the disputed areas into one nation ruled by members of both sides things could be alot better, sort of what the EU is doing. but there will never be peace in the middle east until the second coming!

What the heck are you talking about?
What the heck are you talking about? The Jewish conspiracy to take over the world? Hold up, lets reconsider:
1. Israel has nuclear missles. Wait, why not blow everthing up? Why does it suddenly need to be all "sneaky like" in world politics.
2. Israel has the capacity to blow the Palestinians out of the water. Israelis have tanks, fighter jets, and helicopters. Palestinians have rocks and rusty rifles. But still, the Israelis have never declared an all-out war on the Palestinians. Call that restraint.
3. When an Israeli kills Palestinian children, they admit they were wrong and are sorry. When a Palestinian kills Israeli children, they rejoice.
Now lets look at what a few of us have written (jackthekiller):
begin-
Though, their always want to realise what their calling ZIONIS PROTOCOL. Their saying that they were the chosen one. Their were the world ruler. Their were the people of god.
Their alway belive that their are the great people choosen by God. Their are thought other race are 'GOYEM' and should obey only to their command.
I think I would stop here.
-end
Other than ignoring the incredible spelling mistake (its The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, fyi) and your "GOYEM" (just say "goyim") amazingly enough refers to non-jews. That's it. If you're not jewish, you're a goyim. And I beg you to read the Torah and spot me the passage where it says "All goyim must obey Jews." In fact, one of the few times a goyim ever works for a jew is when he's paid to do things for a Jew on the Sabbath. Jews, on the Sabbath, can't turn on the lights, etc. (its considered work, which is a no-no on the Sabbath) so they HIRE a GOYIM. They PAY them. Holy crap, where's the conspiracy in that?
And don't forget, good grammar helps get your point across
Just a few words from a worried individual.
