I worked in an internetcafé they charge 20 Rand (+/- 2 USD) per hour and there is a huge demand for internet cafés. You won't believe how many tourist make use of these establishments. The only downside of starting one here is the connection speed they have over here the fastest connection available is ISDN. They also used to sell food and drinks some even alcohol. If I go on holiday I'd rather go to an internetcafé then do my interneting in some hotel that charges you ten times more per hour. Another pleasure of using an internetcafé is the anonimity you have...you can do anything. The thing here is no internet café here has a firewall or what ever...

It wasn't too long ago that I was at home in Cleveland OH to see that a once popular college coffee shop had expanded and included an internet cafe. The owner and I go way back and he said that it had been open for 4 months and was growing more and more popular. I guess it is due to the location, this is a college area and it attracts younger adults. I like the idea of seeing more open up. I go there not just for the internet but for the wealth of knowledge that lurks in such a place. He said the only downside was tweaking user privileges, some people love to abuse a good thing. Overall something like this depends on location and target audience. If you are looking for more information on the whole process I will gladly hook you up with the owner, he is a great guy and might be able to give you insight into the whole process if you would like it.

I like to see more around

We only have couple internet cafes in my area(South Fla). I like to see one on every other corner and not just for "vacation" time . It is always nice to know they are there if I need to do some "anonymous" research that can't be done at a libary.

The libaries in Broward Co. block any domains they judge as "unsavory". For example you can't come to AO's site because of the metatags and keywords. So libary internet access isn't the answer.I have a T-1 at work and a dailup at home so I really don't frequent the cafes. I do use them when I'm on vacation however. I think the most important quality for them to have is unrestricted access. Speed is just a nice option.

When I went on a holiday in Indonesia I was surpised to see an Internet Cafe, especially in a country where the people dont really live in the best conditions.

They were charging 12000 rupee per hour (about $2.20AU, $1.10US). It was in a bamboo hut, with 4 PC's all with 33k modems that were dialled up to their ISP when needed. You could eat, drink, smoke, basically do whatever the hell you wanted to.

The 33k modems sucked big time in regards to connection speed, but hey, I was in a bamboo hut, smoking a cigi in Indonesia!!

I was on vacation in my hometown Meissen and here we have a small internetcafe
and I went in sometimes to check mails.
You can also buy drinks and snacks, smoking is allowed.
The cost for surfing are 4 Euro pro hour.
But there are no network games.
