blackice defender is top on my list im not 2 sure about everyone else though
To me, BlackICE is more of an intrusion detection software rather than firewall. Yesterday, Tons Of Fun told us about Kerio Personal firewall, I tried it, and I really, really like it.
Then the other two: ZoneAlarm Pro and Sygate.

Everyone who mentioned Outpost Pro and snort have given the best answers in my opinion.

I have been using AtGuard for a while now, and found it to be excellent. Only problem is that it is pretty hard to get a hold of a legitimate free version.....
Black Ice is also quite good from ISS.
As for an IDS, Snort can do the jab effectively.

hi
look for statefull inspection firewalls not for application firewalls.
conseal ( with w2k patch )
visnetic firewall !
sorry to tell this to others... tiny / zonealarm / outpost, forget it. you dont get the ip packets !
you do not catch it at all . on one machine with tiny and conseal / visnetic , tiny did not recon a outbound conn to a ip adress to chechoslovakia ! well guess ... it was the ip address for a client trojan ( incommand ) .
therfore : lookout for packet filter firewalls

I have only ever used zonealarm, I upgraded to the pro version and I love it, It does everything I need and it seems to be quite powerful.

That old 486 box somebody else mentioned
running linux or bsd. If we weren't networked to that, I'd choose
1 Sygate Pro
2. Agnitum Outpost
3.Kerio
