funny how god allows thousands of innocent people die in an instant. funny how terrorism is now a houseold word, funny how there are homeless people. funny how children die of starvation. funny how A.I.D.S. exists.....
funny how even if god did exist and had intervened, we would still find something to complain about. funny how the human race so thoughtlessly discards others problems in place of continuing their own luxuries.

i don't believe in god. as you can tell. please, nobody be offended by my opinion.

btw, not a personal attack, aea (:

That would be funny if there was a god there is no proof other then a long story book called the bible. Jesus was one of a few 100 peeps at that time who claimed he was the son of god or god or claimed something like that. He was just the one who got followers who got peeps to wright about him and pass it around till there was this big book by tons of peeps who all wanted a peace of the pie then got peeps to to follow them and so on and so on. I think I got off topic again.
Ill THink of one when i get time.

Funny how some trust the bible, some trust the newspapers, yet both are said to be full of exaggerations. Funny how the fight of religion goes on and on through thousands of years and nobody seems to win, yet all claim they can prove. Funny how we believe in a supposed all powerful god yet feel the need to help him out.

If Jesus returned he would be put in a madhouse.

In Northen Ireland Religion has caused enough death to turn me into an atheist.

funny how we kick God out of schools, public places, and try our best to get rid of him and then we wonder why he allows these things to happen.

If you make a structure seem serious enough people are inclined to believe in it no matter how odd the ideology. This applies best to the Catholic church. It also worked for Hitler who managed to convince his followers in many a bizarre, stupid thing.

    Thumbs up Considered Reply

I considered long and hard about whether to post a reply here.

Let me preface by stating that I do consider myself a Christian, a fairly devout Christian. This does not make me perfect, it does not mean I don't get angry in traffic, don't lose my temper, or do many of the things any other normal human being does. It does mean that I feel that I have the opportunity to pursue a relationship with God through the forgiveness of my sins, by grace, through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ.

I have no problem with many of the posts here but let us please put violence in perspective. Religion has been blamed for violence throughout history and yet a study of those conflicts shows that almost (note there are a very few exceptions) none of them were based upon religious differences. Religion, though, is an excellent way to motivate people to fight for a cause in which they have no interest, nothing to gain, and everything to lose.

I believe the original post was merely pointing out that many people will blame God, religion, etc. for everything and then deny that they even believe it. If you are an athiest and blame God, then you have actually blamed nothing (you believe in) for something that happened. If you believe in God but deny him based upon lame excuses or the desire to not be bound by perceived restrictions then you are denying your own beliefs and not just God. You are living a life of self deception. I certainly prefer an honest Athiest than a self deceptive deist.

Personally I believe blame lies with people not God. When I do wrong, it is me doing it. When someone commits a terrorist act it does not matter what their underlying belief or cause is, they are commiting a terrorist act. When the government does the same thing it is no less a terrorist act than when a few maniacs get together and do it.

What I do find interesting is that America has seemingly embraced a philosophy of no individual responsibility, no absolute right or wrong, and that to strive for excellence is to attack those around you above whom you are trying to excel. This is being taught in schools, it is being instilled into our children in many different ways. Then we are surprised that many of them have no respect for others or themselves. Many of them see no reason to strive to achieve but are content not to work, to get hand outs, and expect others to provide for them. A few (and although it is touted in the newspapers it is still only a few) of them commit heinous acts with no remorse or even an understanding of why the act is heinous.

Whether you throw God into the mix with the 10 commandments, praise the early Sumerians with the laws of Hammurabi, or try to achieve understanding with the writings of the Khoran you will find common basic rules. It is wrong to kill, it is wrong to steal, it is wrong to lie, etc. etc. etc. You don't have to throw out ethics with religion. I don't believe you should throw out religion but since America seems determined to do it they should still strive to maintain ethics.

Finally ashbourne, do you even have one fact to back up the simplistic garbage you spouted? Have you done any checking into the facts? Researched Josephus or any of the other contemporary writers of the New Testaments time? Do you even realize that you attacked 4 books of the Bible out of 66? Have you even attempted to research if you are regurgitating popular culture talk or historical and anthropological facts? I would be surprised if you have even read one text on the significance and accuracy of the Bible as a reference (as opposed to a religious text) or any study on the hemaneutics of the Bible as a historical document. If you want to attack religion, go ahead, it is an easy target these days. If you want to attack the Bible get some facts first please. Maybe you should get a good book on Apologetics and sift through it, then if you still feel the same way you will know that it is your decision and not just goo poured into your brain by sources unknown.

I appreciate that this will get many flames but before you flame me, try to be honest in reading my meaning and use things in context.
