interesting little factoid about the origination of the smiley that we have grown to know and love. began in a thread on the CMU CS thread in September of 1982. The actual smiley was proposed on the 19th, so i suppose in 6 days, it will be the anniversary.

thats actually pretty funny, and also rather weird how m$ claims to have found the "origin" when im sure thousands of other ppl had used it before and just not broadcasted it and said "hey i invented the smiley" or something lame to that extent.

here's another bit of whatever for you....
pre 1982 smilies found on PLATO, so I should ammend the first post as the first ASCII smiley, whereas these come about before....
