Personally, I wouldn't switch to RedHat just yet, I'd maybe start her off with Mandrake and then go to Redhat because, although they are both meant for Linux Newbies (maybe linux oldies as well, Mandrake should help your mom become more accustom to Linux. Just my personal advice and opinion.
