Well, heres my two cents....some of you may disagree with me, but I'm going to say my thoughts anyways. (disclaimer: I don't hear much of the news, so my facts may not be straight) 1)If we are scared of terrorists coming into the country, then we ought to close the borders...i mean seal them off tight. 2)There should be no discrimination at all towards any one race or religion...end of story....There should be some damn good proof of terrorist activities if the gov is going to arrest someone. If things keep going the way they are, then ANYONE could be a terrorist. I can see it now.....OMG! So and So is wearing cowboy boots...he must be one of them redneck terrorists!!!! (said sarcastically...Im a good ole country boy who wears boots, Wranglers, and a straw hat ) Pretty soon, everyone is going to be in concentration camps.... I am a concervative, but I believe that Bush has gone loco with all this "homeland security" crap..... WTF!!!! hackers get life in prison, but murderers go free? I think that priorities are mixed up.....First, we need to keep our noses out of other people's affairs....Noone asked us to be the world's police. (no offence to the soldiers who are fighting for our country. I support them 100%. ) I wish we would follow the example of the swiss and remain neutral) Well, enuf of my rant. I hope i made some sense

Planes were flown into buildings and innocent people lost their lives. It was the WORLD TRADE CENTER!
It was the world trade center AND the pentagon! Lest we forget the pentagon because more lives were lost in the trade center? Yes, that is a tragedy and a HUGE loss but the pentagon guys! What happened there and why is the media and Bush hardly ever mentioning the fact that the pentagon was hit?
Anyone who cannot see that this attack was not on America but on freedom loving people from all over the world is blind!
I believe everyone in the world loves freedom yet was the whole world attacked? No, just America. Hmmm..... maybe freedom is not the answer here... Maybe we should be looking for other answers, talking with other countries, talking with people in the middle east about what they find disturbing about America and what their opinion is on why America was attacked. Why are we not doing this, seriously? We are assuming that the attack was on "America's freedom". Maybe instead of blowing Afgahnistan to bits in retaliation, and going after IRAQ for weapons of mass destruction, America might consider itself as something that needs to be changed. But no... we, the "police of the world", do not need to change.
If you do not like our laws and immigration policies then leave or do not come here.
So Americans can enjoy freedom but others that are from less fortunate countries that are enjoying life in America cannot? Should others constantly have to worry that they will be detained or arrested because they are of middle eastern descent?
And with regards to the topic, can you honestly tell me that the people that were coming "to comply with a new rule to register with immigration authorities" are terrorists? They were probably innocent people that are afraid that if they DIDN'T comply with this they would be thrown in jail...and now that they have complied (or tried anyway) ...they get thrown in jail. FAIR???

OK so we expel everyone that may be a threat. if that’s what were doing im sure its not a spur of the moment decision. im sure the president didn't wake up yesterday morning, ask himself, what shall i do today...oh i got it, ill round up all the muslims, yeah! that’s it. no it had to be planned for a while, then what’s the purpose of the big brother machine. ..in case any of us object to it, they'll know about it?
This isn't israel. And i don't want it to be like israel. The muslim population is as much apart of america as any other group. sure we can expect some racial profiling. it would be stupid not to engage in it. we're not under attack by white anglo-saxon protestants or pygmies. But not indiscriminate harassment regardless of guilt or innocence. Even to suggest that the policies of isreal should be practiced here is offensive to me.
Update from salon.com:
+++++++
…that they were forced to register with the Immigration and Naturalization Service and then were arrested for not having their papers in order, which in some cases were caused by government backlog
Under the program all male visitors at least 16 years old from five countries, including Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan and Syria, were ordered to register in person with the INS by Monday. Temporary visitors from 15 other countries, including Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, are required to register by Jan. 10, 2003.
+++++++
I think were all loosing our friggen minds:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2002Dec17.html
here it says 60% of Americans surveyed favor using nuclear weapons to retaliate for any chem./germ warfare used while 58 percent of those interviewed would like to see President Bush present more evidence explaining why the United States should use military force to topple the Iraqi leader. So there seems to be a cross over here of people who aren’t sure if we should go to war but want to nuke them anyway.

There are a lot of countries that don't allow any immigration
at all, and yet we are expected to take our enemies into
our bosom. Somebody please explain this to me.
How many European countries have such a generous policy of
accepting foreign ethnic/linguistic/religious minorities?
China is constantly deporting North Koreans. African countries refuse
to allow people to move in from neighboring states. Arab countries
won't even accept fellow Arab refugees.
If a few fellows from known trouble spots are burdened with a
little extra paperwork in order to remain in the USA, is this too
much to ask?
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

Okay, Discrimination is bullshit, plain and simple. The U.S people discriminating against Arab's because of the terrorist attacks, is bullshit. Let me put it this way, When the Oklahoma City Bombing happened, we learnt that it was Timothy McVeigh (and I think someone else, but don't quote me on it) that was responsible for it. Now, Timothy McVeigh was white. He was also classified as a terrorist. So.. Is this country going to start being prejudice against whites? No, because half the god damn country is white. You get my point...
Mahakaal: I can't say I know what it is like, that would be rude. But I do share sympathy with you and to ANYONE that is discriminated against for any stupid reason.
This is only my opinion, and mine alone. I am against discrimination no matter what the circumstances are and to say, " Oh, he's a muslim, he's going to bomb us!" is pathetic and is plain bullshit.
EDIT: Sorry for my language, but I had to say this and get it off, since discrimination is about as low as it gets.

Thing is, it's a little more serious than a 'little extra paperwork':
One activist said local jails were so overcrowded that the immigrants could be sent to Arizona, where they could face weeks or months in prisons awaiting hearings before immigration judges or deportation.
It's quite narrow-minded to consider all people of Middle Eastern descent your 'enemies'. Of course there are some, the fanatics/'terrorists' and so forth, but to just make a blanket statement that all these people are your enemies is pretty pathetic.

Guys,
WWWOOOWWW!!!
Now i start to realize why USA government really doesn't know how to treat the immigrants issue... this is just a great thread posted by Tedob1 (as always) and a wonderful discussion was here, from many disagreements and moral "fights" to exact coincidences of opinions. We could be arguing and "fighting" all day, more when many of us are from different cultures. So, if we, a "few" guys chit chating in an interactive website, can reach such a discussion, then imagine the big problem that this is for countries government to deal with. Are we talking about enemies??? Personally i detest racism of any kind, we are all " far away" brothers. Why judging a person for being from another country, race or culture? If you want to judge someone then judge a killer, a raper or a thief (if he doesn't stole to feed his family). So let's just hope this problem is fixed and all get to calm again.
Bye.
