Guy’s/Gals wait a minute. This activist and, including us are giving the game distributors a free publicity. Imagine why they choose such a controversial topic of design for their game. Just like the US/UK Government giving Bin Ladin’s terror tactics free publicity and at the same time boosting their popularity, which gives the means to exploit everybody’s freedom.

These game producers have only one thing in mind – money.

This world is a lovely place to live with lots of nice people who are willing to help others.Lets not project the greed and hate of the few on many.

Lets not be used and exploited by them.

i think i could just ask, are the US laws on game violence too leniant to allow something like this to be pulished, let alone sold to people, obviosly the people who buy this game are bound to be homophobic or gay-haters / bashers

and bootieofdarkness, yes it may just be pixels on a screen, but these 'pixels on a screen' condone hatred towards LGBT people and / or groups, how this could have possibly got through the censorship laws in the US i have no idea, i know the thing about everything being politically correct is starting to get out of hand at the moment, but something like this is just going too far to be able to be justified as entertainment

im sure that plenty of straight people would feel the same way about this sort of hate propoganda as well im sure, imagine the uproar if a game was made where you play a LGBT person and went around shootin up str8 people???

Free Speech was never meant to cover something like this.
On the contrary, the real test of your commitment to free speech
is when you are the one who has been offended.
Now you know how a lot of other people feel, other ordinary
people who have felt grievously threatened by some aspect of popular
culture and have been crying out for years that their values
are trashed by the entertainment business.

    Censorship is censorship.
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

erok> There is a game by the KKK killing races. It's called Ethnic Cleansing. This game is banned, but it's available to purchase off their website. Worse yet, this game was released last year on Martin Luther King day! And to top that off, the game was made using Open Source....

    Link

BTW, looking to the whole Postal 2 concept, it the same as Postal 1, you go around causing mayhem, not necessarily targeting a certain group. Homosexuals are not the only target in the game. Marching Bands, Grocery Shoppers, Cats, they're all victims in this game....

    (not defending, just clairifying)

I might get neg'ed for this, but I don't think that the game should be banned. How many of us have played Grand Theft Auto 1/2/3/VC? It is basically the same thing. True, in GTA, you can complete some missions without killing people, but many missions require killing. The rampages are required to get 100% game completion, and they require you to slaughter as many innocent people as you can in some time frame. There are minorities in the game, as well. Some idiot could choose to only kill Hatians while playing the game.

On the web site for the game, it says that you can go through the situations without killing people. Additionally, there are white men, black men, white women, "gay" (how can you make a video game character gay?) men, etc. I think the article is misleading in that it tries to make the game sound like you are "supposed" to kill LGBT's. The name of the game is NOT "Fag Killer", and the point isn't to kill LGBT's exclusively. For that matter, the point doesn't seem to be to kill any specific group of people at all. The player has the choice to kill whomever he/she chooses, or no one at all. If some demented moron plays the game only killing LGBT's or blacks, isn't she/he the one with the problem?

Anyway, that's how I feel. It seems to me like the game is meant to be a catharsis, not a hate-breeding tool. If you choose to play the game, and you choose to only kill LGBT characters, then perhaps you need to seek help.

I agree totally 65_289, the first game that came to mind when I read the opening thread was Vice City. Just about every race and sexual orientation on the planet could complain about false misrepresentation, ethnical stereotyping, etc. Vice City is loaded with them. Haitians and Cubans living in ghettos, latin and blacks constituting 99.99% of the gangs, a red neck who lives in a trailor, has long hair, and is an alcoholic. While we're at it, let's call up any femanist self interest group and see what they think about the hookers. The list goes on and on.

How does a game like this make it into mainstream society?, a so called 'politically correct' society? a society where you can tune to any major political channel and watch cops getting blasted for racial profiling? People losing their jobs because they said something that 'may' have indicated some kind of sexual enuendo? I've even seen a legal battle over the word 'dynamic' used in a classified ad because it's 'male-oriented' or so they say.

So why can a game like Vice City be so successful? The answer is in the question. it's a game.
Does it justify Vice City and what it stereotypes? no. it's not supposed to, it's a game.
Does it justify killing people for no reason? no. it's a game.
so what does that mean? It's killing and stereotyping without consequence. It's taking taboo and making it possible to save it on an 8mg memory card.
In fact, what bothers me...is that there is so much controversy over the game, yet it sells.

I think the inherent attraction to violence is the root of all this. Whether we like it or not, we can make a thousand rules and amendments and civil liberties..yet underneath it all, this shroud we call civilized society, I think...we are still driven by age old instincts.(imo)
