That open letter doesn't say anything about hating all Belgians or even anything remotely close to that.
It's speaking to those who have wronged the U.S., by saying "it got it's comeuppance on Sept.11" and to those who call us a bunch of hypocritical bullies.
If you aren't one of those people then this letter does not apply.

What a fair assessment of the U.S., I see all of your reasons to think that. We give money, we give moral support, we even give our sons and daughters for your freedom of expression. I wish your God would be so charitable.

So it seems in the minds of some people the U.S. is already guilty of something that hasn't even happened.... fair argument, and you want to argue the U.S. is being unreasonable? Ridiculous. What a farce.
I have no intention of driving a riff between the U.S. and it's allies, this letter was not intended to upset our friends. This letter was directed at people who take our aide and our friendship when it's convenient for them.
So to all of our "fair weather friends".....

I can't speak for Holland or for Norway, but from my point of view it seems as if the US is a little to happy to go to war, and they want to go to war as soon as possible, this is where my gripe is....war sucks....people die, art and culture is lost forever....the US wouldn't seem to know much about this, but I know holland and Norway have both had their fair share of problems during the seconds world war, during which, the US only got involved once they lost ships. I don't want to start a massive fight about this, because it doesn't really interest me, but I know I will not stand by the US in this fight.....war should be a last resort, and even at that it's a horrible thing.

Yeah, we want to go to war as soon as possible, after a 12 year wait...... I can see that as a valid reason not to support the U.S.
In the words of Sir Winston Churchill "Still if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not so costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no chance of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves. "
Mankind have a great aversion to intellectual labor; but even supposing knowledge to be easily attainable, more people would be content to be ignorant than would take even a little trouble to acquire it.

MY HOPE IS THAT THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT WAKES UP, SHUTS DOWN THE UN (OF WHICH THEY PAY THE MAJORITY OF) FOR YOU WORTHLESS IDIOTS TO SIT IN NICE HOTELS, LIMOS AND TALK AND DEBATE NOTHING. THE EU AND NATO HAVE OUTLIVED THEIR USEFULNESS AND HAS NO PLACE IN THE WORLD TODAY.
Very harsh words that do seem to portray hatred.....

Thank you very much for shouting at me this way. I like reading intelligent and differentiated posts like this. My world exists in only two colours too. Just black and white. I agree that it's too complicated to see the world in all it's colours. My opinion is straight forward too. Looking left or right would confuse me.
Again: I enjoy reading unmasking posts like yours. I assure you my high esteem!

I hate to do this. But as usual I'm the only french here so stupid as to reply to a political thread, and I feel myself obliged to reply.
There is a difference between waging war for freedom and waging war for oil.
When I view French informations and even when I view CNN, It seems to me that Bush only wants to gain oil and to make US populations think to something else than economic problems. And it also seems that the US population is happy to wage such an horrible war and don't want to accept the futility of this, even in the front of the evidences.
We must be aware that this war will be a massacre. Irakians will never be able to stop the attack, their country is ruined, their weapons are outdated, and their army is now obliged to train civilians -you read well: civilians- to have a chance to resist more than one week .
I WONDER IF THE EIFFEL TOWER WERE A PILE OF RUBBLE ON 9/11 WOULD THE FRENCH STILL WANT TO PRIDE THEMSELVES ON THEIR ARROGANCE?
If such a thing has been arrived, we would probably have searched guilt men and nations. But I hope we would think two seconds before becoming more monstrous than terrorists.
I still hope that US (ie. Bush) will wake up and understand it is not a game.
I don't agree with a lot of things Chirac had done. In fact I think that in a political point of view, his attitude is stupid, but I admit that in a moral point of view, his attitude is the only logical: try to prevent a stupid war (Yes, I know, a war is always stupid. But is not our current situation really heavily stupid?).
Just my 2 cents. You're free to forge your own opinion, as long as it is your own opinion and not the one of another.

No, thank you Uhu, for paying attention and realizing that all I did was post it, I did not write it, I didn't format it, I just posted it. You can keep your sarcasm and your esteem, I have a feeling your going to need every bit you can get. And certainly in the future please refrain from giving me "a piece of your mind" you seem to be running too short to go throwing it around so willy nilly....
What can I say Conf1rmed, you are the poster child for hatred from what I've seen. So go ahead and read into whatever you like. Not like intelligence plays into your equation.
I thank God none of you have any say in what happens, but maybe that is what upsets you all so much, eh?
P.S. Keep your blinders on, you will need them.

Perhaps my English needs work, but if I'm reading that intro correctly, it's only addressed to the arrogant, ignorant, and ungrateful citizens, not the populations of those countries as a whole.
Perhaps you should be careful about claims that the post was addressed to you.
