Well if it helps any most Americans are opposed to this so-called "war." Most of us are trying to figure out were this came from all of a sudden and how the focus was turned from Bin-Laden and terrorism to "terrorist" dictators and oil. I for one am not for war because it means that my family and friends will have to go! I have many friends and relatives that would be called up and if a draft were instituted my wife would have to go because of her profession. I think there are many sterotypes that many countries place on the U.S. and realize how little control we really have here. Remember the elections? The popular vote was for Gore and Bush won because of the electoral college...who are they? Like we know!
Anyway keep in mind that Americans arent always happy that we are the "peace keepers" of the world, as some would like to believe. It just means I may lose another friend or family member....

Fair Weather Friends - I like that.
It's not about oil (IMO). If someone came to your house and killed someone that you loved and shared dreams and time with, would you be pissed? Damn right I would. This war is about keeping those close to us alive. Those that go and die do give up the ultimate sacrifice in that they willingly give all of their hopes and dreams up for the chance to make sure that we live an enjoyable, lazy life. They just happened to screw with the wrong people. Didn't we show that during WWII? People died while they were at work, possibly talking to their wife or child on the phone. Doesn't that warrant some form of anger against those that perpetrate such a heinous act? And when we go over for retaliation we are looked down upon for our blunt acts of wanton destrcution. Yea, we make mistakes. **** happens. We kill innocents, but weren't innocents killed in the attack on us? My grandfather served in 2 wars and came home after taking 5 bullets in Vietnam. I won't believe what he did was in vain (btw - I'm not comparing 'nam to the curent war). I was pissed, I think we should have turned the country into a glass desert. Those who haven't had such an act affect their lives can only look at us and say; "Gee, sorry it happened but don't fight back". I'm sorry but to me the whole Christian idea of turn the other cheek is bull.
Risk everything, or gain nothing.

Ive been To Belson, seen the mass graves. The world sat on its arse when when that was started, for quite along time even though the reports of what was going on leeked out. No one it seemed was prepared to believe them. We all see the coverage of what has gone on in Iraq. The question i pose do we have the moral right to be the agressors. The alliance realy missed there chance last time round, when they had the moral right to evict an agressor from Kuwait
Whatever happens we should all support are armed forces if it comes to it.

I really dont believe this soon to be massacre has anything to do with terrorism .Saddam has run a secular goverment (his second in comand tariq assiz is christian) ,osama has called for the overthrow of saddam many times and even offered his mujahadeen to help in the first gulf war .Saddam poses far more of a threat to Europe than the US ,what little threat he is .Half the population of iraq are children(take a guess why) ,60% of the people rely on the goverment for food ,their country is strewn with depleated uranium(du shells were a great way to get rid of the usa s nuclear waste)UNICEF says that half a million iraqi children have died directly due to sanctions, I applaud France and Germany for standing for what is morally right ,GWB is gonna open the gates of hell with his actions and i pray that someone will be able to close them ,the surest way to promote terror is through fear and hate and those will be wide spread and pointed at the USA if things continue towards war ,the usa may be a super power but they are a small part of the world person by person ,before you call me anti american and insult me , try reading the world press ,try thinking of the rest of the world (there is one dont you know), put away your nationalistic crap and look at the track record of us foreign policy,do as i say not as i do is the motto guatamala ,chile, elsalvador ,vietnam,cambodia.......,people dont just oppose the usa for no reason ,they arent jealous or stupid ,they just taking a more open and worldly view of things , if you want to lead it has to be done by example ie. peace ,respecting treaties ,respecting alliances eg.not developing more weapons of mass destruction, not pulling out of abm treatys to make 'star wars' ,not belittling and berating dissenting views(France and Germany)its the pot calling the kettle black when you fear saddams wmd ,you gave him what he has to kill the iranians ,-----the usa produces 50 % of the weapons on the planet and make up about 5% of the population------hmmmmmmmmmmm (i watch cnn for amusement , not the news)

What will it take for the leaders of America and her allies (including Australia ) to realise that they do not want war with Iraq. In the past war has been something that was fought by green men in a land far away and we all got the politically-correct updates spoon fed to us on the six o'clock news every night. Americans and Australians don't know the first thing about war. Other countries have had wars going on in their own backyards for years. When the casulties start coming back from the battlefieds, or not coming back at all, people might waver in their convictions that war is really the solution to all this. When allied civilians are lying dead in the streets of their own counties, people might rethink their pro-war stance.
I wonder why it is that during Clinton's administration, there was peace with Iraq, but only months after Bush jr. gets into power, America is chomping at the bit for war. Nobody wins a war. If, or should I say when, war does enventuate, the two towers and the bali bombing are going to look tame in comparison to what will follow. Do we really want to see more innocent people killed? Not on TV from the safety of the couch. I mean right in your face. There are alternatives to war and as long as these alternatives are making some progress, war be considered a last resort. War is not funny. War is not cool. War kills people who are, black, white, innocent, guilty, women, children, wrong or right. Who wants to die?
And why the **** is John Howard so keen to get Australia involved in all of this. We are an isolated country that has a huge land mass, with no army to defend it and we have very large Islamic neighbours, in Indonesia. Australia should do what any first grader would do in the playground when a fight breaks out, sit down and shut up. Australia relies heavily on her alliance with America. America will always act in America's interest. What will happen if the alliance weakens or worse, disolves? I'd hate to think Mr Howard is doing all of this because he wants to look like a firm leader. Go on Johnny! Leads us firmly to war! Watch what happens. I think it might be time for me to take that holiday to France or Germany that I've been thinking about.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. America does nothing but ask for trouble. little boys with their toy guns is all they are. If the world were a school, America would be the schoolyard bully. I ashamed to even be in this close of proximity to them. A fair number of American's are quite nice people, some of them are even on this board. Yet for some reason there are so many that want to shoot first and ask questions later. I've said it in all my posts regarding this subject, go out and watch Bowling for Columbine, it will show you how horrible America really is. When you are given a gun for opening a bank account, you know that's going too far. Americans live off fear, that's all they know, and Bush is doing a great job of creating fear. To quote Tommy Lee Jones in MiB - "A person is smart, people are stupid" or something along those lines. Anyways, America is a prime example of that right now, They have some of the greatest minds in the world, yet they are acting like idiots. The original post mentioned if it had been the Eiffel Tower on 9/11... Well it wasn't. it wasn't the Eiffel Tower, or Buckingham Palace, or the CN Tower or any other famous structure... and why not.. Because other countries don't go sticking their noses where they don't belong. Yet here you go doing it again. It was a shame that so many innocent people died, but it didn't compare to the innocent people that the US kills every year when they attempt to "uphold freedom" (I smell bullshit).. You'd think that Americans would learn from 9/11 and let other countries be... but that would be too easy.. and then American citizens might start looking at problems of national nature, rather than an international nature. If make terrorism bigger than it is, no one will notice we kill 11,000+ people every year with guns, or that people die on our streets because of lack of food and money, yet we cry for more support for the DoD.... All I have to say is grow up and take care of your own before you start worrying about everybody else.

Yes, that would be too easy. Just let terrorists complete their goal. Let them strike fear into the hearts of the American people. No, that's not how it works.
Many people think we've brought this upon ourselves. Well, we didn't, but for those of you who think that, why do you tell Americans something like, "Just let it be. Let people stomp all over you, and maybe we'll all get together and sort it out." Is this how you normally think? Just close your eyes and hope it goes away? Let someone else deal with all your problems? Well America is dealing with its own problem, and trying to help other countries in the process.
Perhaps my English needs work, but if I'm reading that intro correctly, it's only addressed to the arrogant, ignorant, and ungrateful citizens, not the populations of those countries as a whole.
This person can read English better than a lot of people who are fluent in the language.
Perhaps if people are getting upset by this, they can categorize themselves with one of these groups?
On another different note, how many of you people that are currently anti-war, or anti-American know what it means to 'Fight for your country and those who died before you? Is it wrong to fight for freedom, and help those in need? Maybe the French would be a little more understanding if they had a dictator who killed people nonchalantly, who did nothing to deserve it? I won't even go into what else goes on.
I'm proud to serve my country. I'm also glad our president believes in God. For those of you who don't know, that's a lot better than having a sexually permiscuous, pathologically lying person as the leader of a country.

rather than start another flame war like i did in
http://www.antionline.com/showthread...0&pagenumber=6
i'll just say two things.
first, Valor, that is a funny ass picture. i have seen it before, but it cracks me up every time i look at it. second, i think what this continuing debate needs is some historical perspective. here is some historical perspective from Pat Buchanan about French motivations:
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/ar...TICLE_ID=31362
before you dismiss Pat Buchanan as a crazy, right-wing neo-nazi (he is far from it), you will notice he is decidedly anti-hawkish if you actually read the whole column.
