What will it take for the leaders of America and her allies (including Australia ) to realise that they do not want war with Iraq. In the past war has been something that was fought by green men in a land far away and we all got the politically-correct updates spoon fed to us on the six o'clock news every night. Americans and Australians don't know the first thing about war. Other countries have had wars going on in their own backyards for years. When the casulties start coming back from the battlefieds, or not coming back at all, people might waver in their convictions that war is really the solution to all this. When allied civilians are lying dead in the streets of their own counties, people might rethink their pro-war stance.
I wonder why it is that during Clinton's administration, there was peace with Iraq, but only months after Bush jr. gets into power, America is chomping at the bit for war. Nobody wins a war. If, or should I say when, war does enventuate, the two towers and the bali bombing are going to look tame in comparison to what will follow. Do we really want to see more innocent people killed? Not on TV from the safety of the couch. I mean right in your face. There are alternatives to war and as long as these alternatives are making some progress, war be considered a last resort. War is not funny. War is not cool. War kills people who are, black, white, innocent, guilty, women, children, wrong or right. Who wants to die?
And why the **** is John Howard so keen to get Australia involved in all of this. We are an isolated country that has a huge land mass, with no army to defend it and we have very large Islamic neighbours, in Indonesia. Australia should do what any first grader would do in the playground when a fight breaks out, sit down and shut up. Australia relies heavily on her alliance with America. America will always act in America's interest. What will happen if the alliance weakens or worse, disolves? I'd hate to think Mr Howard is doing all of this because he wants to look like a firm leader. Go on Johnny! Leads us firmly to war! Watch what happens. I think it might be time for me to take that holiday to France or Germany that I've been thinking about.
