I haven't checked out the links that these other guy's have given you, I'm sure they're all great. But all I'm going to put in is. . .BACKUP. . before you play around with the system registy, PLEASE BACK IT UP! Better be safe then sorry. Oh, and good luck

So your ready to mess with the database also known as the Registry you can do a lot of different changes to the operating system, but you can also really mess it up if you dont know what you're doing. Heres a *tip* for ya, the most important hives are HKEY_USERS and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. ALL of the other hives duplicate information taken from these two. The HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT hive (in the background) is identical to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES subkey (foreground). Just like [glowpurple]techtech[/glowpurple] said BACK IT UP. Before you even mess with with the registry settings, just make sure you know how to backup your registry first.

Well I dont know what operating system your running, but heres how to back it up in Windows 98/ME/XP
1.) In Windows 98 the registry checker automatically back ups your registry each time you boot your computer. It then keeps those back ups for 5 days. You can also use the registry Editors export function. If you choose the all option when selecting the export range, you can export the entire registry to the back up media of your choice.
2.) In windows ME Has the system restore utility. This program takes a snap shot of your system settings, registry once per day and then saves them. You can revert to a previous registry simply by restoring any of the unsaved restore points.
3.) Windows XP Has its own back up utility. You can access the the program by opening the start menu and programs , accessories, and to the system tool folder. After you open the program open the advanced mode and choose to back up the system state data this option will save all system settings including the registry.
