Well, after watching that screwed up video let me put a religious take on this one (note:for me to say i am righteous would be hypocrisy:however i do have belief's)
Anyway: Take a look at this picture, all these things will happen, no-one knows when but they will!
If you are willing to open your mind a little, go find a bible and look it up, im sure you will find the corralation between what it says and what you are seeing today. (im not saying all of this is currently happening but you can see the beginnings of such things). For example the boom in knowledge and technology and so on...

I would love to hear your thoughts everyone!
Mark my words here, you will see the rise of the EU as the new world body, and isnt it strange we are now talking about the irrelevance of the U.N, no-one would of said that even 5 years ago.
<edit> dont forget to view the legend underneath the picture.

I love jvi and his wife Rexella , although for different reasons than you do. Their coverage of world events with a fundie spin is quite interesting and entertaining. imho

Awwwww man, so the Netherlands are p1ssed at us and burning our flag... even in avatar form, eh Jinx? Whatever shall we do? Oh well - get in line with every other country. Don't tell me the Netherlands had an oil stake in Iraq as well? Probably not, but the view must be great on that horse.
Man - I cannot wait for some other country to the be 'world super (duper) power' so I too can protest and start burning flags.
Hey also - thanks for spitting in all of our vets faces and the continued generalizations of the US; even all of us here in the States could not agree on the Iraq issue, but that's ok so go ahead, burn our flag we appreciate it. Ya know - cause it solves so much by doing that. It must be nice to be bystanders and point out flaws when inaction seems to rule by default.
Then again I could be wrong - so let it fly baby!

Somehow I can't see that happening in the next 5 years. As of next year, several former Eastern European states are joining the EU, which alters the balance of power in the EU significantly.
Up to now the EU has effectively been run by France and Germany, with other countries having to accept what they decide.
Common foreign policy? Don't make me laugh - we've discussed this before but if you consider how the enlarged EU would have voted on the war in Iraq (each country gets x votes based on some arcane formula), there would have been a slight majority in favour of the US.
Would France or Germany have accepted this?
European army? Popular with the French and Germans, but deeply unpopular with the British, as in what circumstances would this be used?
Federal Europe? Again very popular with the French and Germans, as this would help to preserve their influence. However the UK is highly unlikely to join the common European currency, as once you do that, you loose control of the ability to manage your countries economy (the UK is doing significantly better than the rest of the EU, as a direct result of setting its own interest rates etc.). Inevitably this leads to a Federal superstate.
I can't see these fundamental differences being sorted out in the next 5 years.

I dont want to be a smart-allick here, but you must have misread my statement? It is very important that i clarify, i didnt say any of this would happen in the next five years!, i said" no-one thought that the U.N was irrelevant just 5 years ago!!"
Secondly it might take more than a few paragraphs to explain how the EU will eventually unite, but it will come about.

Hey bugs, at least you were willing to watch them by the way they are not spinning anything, it's kind of like the Oreilly Factor "The Spin Stop's Here!"/lol.

Sorry if you misinterpreted my reply - I was only trying to point out that I don't think anything significant will happen in the next 5 years. I think there is a good chance that the EU will unite in the distant future (say 10+ years?), now that France and Germany are loosing their stranglehold over how the EU is run. The key thing here is that the former Eastern European states, together with a majority of other states have had enough of the way that France & Germany have run the EU.
The French position can be summarised after passing an EU resolution:
We don't like it, so we'll ignore it, as we know that we won't suffer any penalties.
The UK position is that, well, we thought that was legally binding, and as we implement all EU measures, why don't you?

I agree with darkes, I'd say over 10 years before the EU unites.
