Thread: Some simple logic

  1. #31
Speaking of guns - our state, being now the 35th in the union to pass it, has just signed into a new law, permitting citizens to carry a handgun. Some of the restrictions include, adults over 21, no violent felony record, and a disallowment for certain mental disabilities. People wishing to apply also have to go through training and testing before a permit of that type is issued. Previously, local police chiefs had the discretion of who received handgun carrying permits.

I just hope the training includes target practice of first a barn then down to maybe a can on a fence.

I was referring to civilians and again I did mention it was a joke. A Bobcat Goldthwait joke if want my source. (Yes, the loud guy from Police Academy, he's one of my favorite all-time comics)

About gun laws - Just remember "moderation in everything" even moderation.
Mankind have a great aversion to intellectual labor; but even supposing knowledge to be easily attainable, more people would be content to be ignorant than would take even a little trouble to acquire it.

I live in Vermont USA. Our state gets a poor mark with the anti gun lobby because we have very few gun laws. We have to follow the Fed laws but the state has basically one additional gun law, it's illegal to use a gun in a performance of a crime.

I might add that we also have a very low crime rate. Most gun incidents are hunting accidents.

Laws don't prevent or deter crime. A criminal who is facing hard time for murder, rape etc isn't going to care about another year or two because of an illegal gun.

Maybe that is the right point in all these gun discussions fourdc. Felons ALREADY have no regard for the law or others.

We have enough laws. We have too many criminals.

Where I live, youngstown ohio, has the highest murde rate per capita in the U.S. Gun laws havnt helped one bit. I can prob. get one in about an hour off the street. The point is, it doesnt matter how many gun laws are passed, the criminals will still be able to get them and do what they please anyway. I cant say i have an answer for gun control, but something needs to be done.

No matter who wrote this, it resonates with me. My personal favorite though is Paul Harvey .
