. I don't have to remind you that AO depends on those ads, do I?
Neg is right , AO needs to live of ads these days... JUPM is a company... get over it the ads won't kill you.

Although I have to admit I really like the *site benefit* , but on, the other hand I wouldn't give a **** if there were ads ( as long it ain't M$ Ads )

The point is , if JP kept it without ads it would surely die, If JUPM doesn't use ads it surely dies, and after all
that's not what we want , do we ?

I know the company isn't going to keep a site up that is a loss but this is about ' net choices. If you feel it is necessary to keep the site going may i suggest you don't use a popup blocker on sites you frequent that use those tools to help keep them up and running.
the only way to fix it is to flush it all away-tool

I know that alot of pop ups are annoying but when it comes to seeing an add across the top of this site i really gota say that i dont care if they advertise. JupMedia has to pay for this site somehow soi its either advertise or charge a subscription fee. If they started doing that i know i wouldnt be here anymore. So before we start bitching about people trying to run a business lets think about what we get in return.

Ads are not a problem for me unless they become really too big and invasive or if they slow down my connection, what can quickly happen with small connections on a forum site.
I hope that JUPM will never commit the error to depreciate the AO surfing comfort with ads. It is so easy to discourage new members with such errors.

I find it funny that a bunch of problem solving computer geeks cannot figure out how to download and set up a service such as proximitron, or build their own proxy that can do the same html tweaking. There are enough programs out there to strip out about anything you want from the html, as well as source code to build your own.

AO is owned by someone who has to generate revenue to make it worth keeping. Get used to it.

Don't whine about your problems....fix them.

I just took the time to see what your nifty lil zip file did. Although tweaking the hosts file might help, doing a straight up copy using your bat file will wipe out any previous changes that the user might have made.

Another little problem is that by sending all microsoft.com traffic to 127.0.0.1, you are basically screwing up your access to windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

Instead of posting a hosts file and bat files, it might be better to simply post a tutorial on how to make the changes themselves or point the user to one that already exists. Not only would that reduce the number of problems by people who run the code and run into issues (then coming to you), it would also shift the responsibility to the end user. The whole give a man a fish, teach a man to fish thing....

That is all very true except for screwing up windows update. Windows update will still work. I tested the .bat file and then ran windows update just to be sure, and it worked just fine.

I honestly don't understand why people complain when there's an ad at the top of a page, these websites do need income somehow seeing as they are providing you a free service. As far as I can tell the ads have grown a little in size but nothing absurd, they're off at the top and bottom of the page... It's not like when you open the site 30 pop-ups open and it takes you 10 minutes to find the browser with the original website in it, that's when they become a nuisance. If you do have a connection that's so slow that a slight increase in ad size causes you grief then by all means do something about it but otherwise don't complain because if they take them away then you'll end up without a website as soon as the cash runs out.
Reality is the one who has it wrong, not you
