to bad we dont have the cd. i had though of that and asked my sister to burn me windows but i havent talked to her since then.
i tryed the bios stuff i was getting floppy disk(s) fail (40) all the time i had two differnt drives and two differnt mother boards and was having basicly the same problem on both.
i think i figured out what might have been the problem my big foot hard drive had had a virus and thats way i formated it but maybe the virus survied or i have this video card a "sis 6326 agp sis'98 pkd0227 0005af" with a "v2.25" little removeable chip thingy on it and i thought that maybe some how it stored the virus becuse i got the old 486 mother board to read this dos 6.22 disk that i had downloaded and it was working so i put all the best pci cards i had in that computer and my big foot hard drive and booted back up and the damn thing froze while updating the ESCD i removed the hard drive and rebooted still same problem i tryed again and this time it wouldnt get past looking for my hard drive and it would freeze so that mother board is shot and the other one isnt working either so i went to good will and bought some used mother boards a good pent mmx 200 and an old pent 100 both where tested at the store and they worked i took the old mother board and put the video card and hard drive in and started having the same problems.
i put all my other stuff on the other mother board and its working fine i got dos 6.22 in there now but i would really like to use my big foot but i dont want any more problems.
any sugestions?
any one want to buy three slitely messed up mother boards?!?
p.s. how do i change my user name from oso_1_ to something else? do i have to get a new account?

Part of your problems could be the agp card. That SiS card is just no good quality, also you need to be sure that you use the right standard, 1.0 or 2.0, AGPx1 and x2 are 1.0, AGPx4 is 2.0
By forcing wrong standard (eg wrong voltage agp cards) into older motherboards you can easily damage the board (and vga card).

next: Quantum bigfoots, well I have experienced that sometimes the Quantum Bigfoot labels are wrong. For instance the label reads 2.1GB, x heads, x sectors, but in fact it's a 2.5GB disk with other specs (or vice versa). You have two labels one on top of the disk, that has the power requirements, master slave options, us patents and configs for all available bigfoots (1.2GB, 2.1GB, 1.7GB, 2.5GB). At the back you have a second label stating the number if your drive. It's like "2550AT P/N xxxxxxx rev 03-C"
This makes every computer enthousiast think that you have a 2.5 GB disk in your hands, well mostly it is but sometimes it's a 2.1GB. I have encountered many of those disks. So there was probably some nasty reseller.

your probley right about that. that would make sense but i'm still not sure i want to try the card in my new mother board i have how ever hooked up the big foot and it is working fine for now.

but... i was having problems with the card on the mother board it came from and newer mother boards that i had. why would that be?

Intel changed their policy with their newer chips and introduced the 1.5v as the standard for agp however older cards (e.g. 2xAGP) runs on 3.3v (mobo's with VIA 693 or Intel BX support these). Sticking such a card into your 1.5v agp slot will damage mobo and card. It will burn down your fresh mobo!

The 845 or the newer chipset based motherboards will not support AGP 2x VGA card anymore. Furthermore, VIA's KT400 and SiS's 746 have also given up AGP 2x/4x compatible design which wil definitely cause some trouble.

Therefor first check the voltages your agp slot works on, it's either 3.3v or 1.5v. If you don't have the manual, you can search the net for the manual, or check your chipset number and search the net for your chipset specifications (this will tell you the voltage).
Check your agp card voltage. If it's ok plug in, otherwise don't

That's probably a version number and NOT the voltage. AGP cards normaly are 1.5V or 3.3V.
Upgrade the card? bwah perhaps you can add some memory chips but that's not worth their price.

btw, you know what a chipset is? It's on your motherboard. When I said check the chipset number, I mean check it and google for it. For instance it could have been an Intel 850, or a Intel 440BX or a SIS645, ... search their sites for the specifications.

Look at your graphic card, search for the model number and google that number this will probably turn up the specs for the agp card.

Compare those results and there you are.
