Windows 2000 bug
(This post is not security related)
I got a copy of mswindows server 2002 from my college, but when it looks for hardware during the first stage of install it hangs up, i have tried this on 3 computers and they all have the hangup. im already po'd at microsoft for that one, and it shows up in my windows 2000 start options. So after trying the install, my computer will boot to the windows 2000 boot menu and ask what os i wanna start, Windows 2000 pro, windows, or windows 2000 setup, i want to delete the windows 2000 setup from that menu, and im not quite sure how, also i would like to know how to set the default os in that menu (if u leave the computer alone the first os that starts up without user intervention)
Thanks a bunch

You can change the bootmenu you see by opening 'boot.ini' .
This is a hidden file in your root directory (c:\) It will look some thing like the following :
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Pro" /FASTDETECT
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Enterprise" /FASTDETECT
The default line lets you know what operating system will be the.......default
If you for example would remove 'multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Enterprise" /FASTDETECT' from this file the bootmenu will not show up because there is no longer a choice.
More info on boot.ini.

Remember to make a backup of the file before you make changes.
