Sticky Desktop.
Hi Chaps,
I've just inherited a slightly used computer for my test bed here at work (Compaq Deskpro, Win2000 Version 5.00.2195)
The problem is there are some icons / files on the Desktop which I simply cannot get rid of:
Error message is:
"Cannot Delete (filename) Access is Denied, The source file may be in use"
I've checked the files and they arent read only, I've checked whats running using Task Manager and Sygate Pro and the files im trying to delete / uninstall are NOT running. Also I've been into settings and there are NO Desktop/User profiles set-up on this machine other than mine.
Tried with the admin login (have permission to use it) but exactly the same thing happens.
Files that are stuck on Desktop:
Elfbowl
Entlog.html
SBFight (Projector Skeleton?)
AOL Instant Messenger
Copernic Pro
Palm Desktop
2 x Folders
SOMEONE, ANYONE! HELP!
(Ps. Because these machines are for a 'high level' function we / I cannot re-install the Operating System they have to be sent away for weeks!!!)
I remember when Nihil was ickle. Does that mean I'm old?

Off the top of my head, run a dos disk (use NTFSDOS) and delete the files that way by booting up from the floppy. Other way is to slave this disk off another and delete them that way.
Have you checked all the permissions including advanced? (I'm assuming you have but I'm just tossing ideas out here... )

Thanks MsMittens,
Cant slave it as it would be against our cosmicly fantastic security policy to open the acutal pc casing doh!!!
Gonna try NTFS - Im a bit scared as I havent used it for a long while!!
As usual your beauty is only out weighed by your knowledge
Seriously tho....Thanks Mate.
