Microsoft PDF on Patch Management
Microsoft released a PDF paper along with a set of tools and templates to help administrators and users develop smoother and more effective means of managing patches- something you have to do quite frequently.
You can download a ZIP file containing the PDF and the tools and templates from Microsoft at the link below:

I must be being stupid but I can't find the attached PDF or url to it.

You're not stupid- it wouldn't upload.
First because it was an executable zip and EXE files aren't allowed. But even when I did JUST the PDF it wouldnt upload (too big??).
If you look at the original post I changed it to an offsite link where you can download the file.
