There are internet agree ment contracts is there not??
If so i think you should re read yours b4 doing anything. else bye bye job..
I agree with NightFallsGirl. My employees have to sign an agreement limiting what they do "on the clock". While I allow them free acccess to any web sites or programs, they are not allowed to use anything "not work related" for an unreasonable amount of time (which I have lined out in the agreement). I want my employees to be happy and not get bored (which, as you said yourself can affect productivity), but I also need to make sure they get their work done.
One of the reasons I allow my employees to use chat programs is because it is a good way to stay in contact with our clients. Many of our clients use such programs at home and at the office, which gives them more access to us. All traffic, however, is logged to one of my servers and sifted through with a script to ensure that employees aren't wasting too much of their time chatting. Additionally, any communications with clients are filed away into folders, by client, so that we can not only make sure all communications are kept in case of any sort of lawsuit, but also because clients are charged for the time they communicate with us.
If you feel that you an be more productive by using chat programs (which I doubt, but I don't know you, so anything's possible), talk to your admin. Not only can you plead your case, but he/she can also tell you exactly why they are blocking such traffic. If you get caught using a program such as http-tunnel, you may very well get fired because you are placing the business at risk for viruses, trojans, not to mention infiltration. If you have a problem, go to your admin. Don't try to take it into your own hands because you'll get burned.

...said that you created a program that will enable chat with port 8080 or will enable...
i said port 80, the http port. the http server must be on somewhere where you can run mirc and can send through port 80. probably a computer outside your office that is online 24/7. that can be behind a firewall, but atleast port 6666-6669,7000 (irc ports) other than port 80 must be open too.
i still cant find "conjusive" on the dictionary
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=conjusive&db=*
oh, im pinoy too.

Ok, boys easy on....HTTP tunnel is a free tunneling software....and wont help u to "crack a firewall" ... i think the peep using this tem need to understand what the term means....and as far as bypassing the firewall is concerned.....it just encapusaltes the socks 4/5 data to http ....
yes ... the firewall can be bypassed under circumstances.....but as far as chatting is concerned...i dont think u will be ever make it using their free service any how the procedure for doing it is :
1. configure ur HTTP tunnel to the HTTP gateway....ie the ip: the ip of the server whose port 80 allows u to communicate to the external world...always start tunnel b4 starting any program like mirc, etc...
2. configure ur program like mirc etc....(in the firewall section) IP: 127.0.0.1 port 1080...never start ur application program until the message in the text area of HTTP tunnel says : socks4/5 server started successfully.....
with their free service i seriously doubt u will be able to connect ...ever...

outch lol
This really IS some kind of HTTP tunneling software. I thought pixelrockchick was confuced with terms.
Thx for the link pixelrockchick, interesting reading.
O boy o boy will our Firewall guy be unhappy when he learns about this lol
Poor guy
If I understand this correctly, you would make a point to point connection to a third party server, that then will relay your TCP/IP trafic.
In other words, this opens up the company network wide open to a third party comppany !
Who really knows what they can do with a connection like that .

HTTP Tunnel was a pretty swift piece of software a few years back... it does all the nice "tunneling" for you, but I haven't used it in a few years.
It won't work on all firewalls though. It all depends on the setup of the firewall in question, and even if you are "tunneling" they can still see the information passing and can block it if they really want to.
As far as chatting being more conducive to working I would have to strongly disagree. I allow IM within my network, but not to the outside world. I don't mind the devs chatting amongst themselves, but we noticed a rather significant drop off in productivity when we allowed them to chat with the outside world. I hated to have to shut it off, but they had several warnings about loss of productivity before we killed their outside connections.

Nihil: ok geez! I deleted my last post. I'm sorry for posting on this thread and for sending her a pm. I didn't know that newbies like myself aren't allowed to send a Private Message. BTW I wasn't trying to pick her up. All I did was pm'med her a link and it's not a porn link. Sent you a pm regarding your post because I don't wanna start crapping on her thread. Thanks for making me look like someone who picks up girls on Security Site.
PS: Don't think i'm gay or even trying to pick you up just because I sent you a pm .
