of course its possible, nothing is impossible in this world, (apprently)

You only need to look at the defaced websites over at attrition.org to see some examples,

theres no point to it really, I supppose it could be used as the starting point of a bigger hack but theres usually better ways to do that.

Why dont you get another computer, a nic and a piece of crossover. Install apache on it (free) set up a website then try attacking that, its better cos its not illegal, you can increase the secuirty to make it harder for ur self, and u wont end up breaking rocks and sharing a cell with a 300lb monster called bubba who just wants to be ur "special" friend

Youll learn allot about security and admin this way,

i2c has got a good point there.
Me and a mate did this, well instead we hooked up a computer at my grandparents house, and we would break into the website with our own computers.

This was the easiest way to learn,.

Even though we had to reinstall everything a few times a week, that was not the point, we were interested in learning something, and we saved up the cash and brought a cheap box, set it up and off we went.
The computer is still up and running to this day and that was like 3 years ago.

Now it's just used to store files and programs.

Anyhow the point is if you really want to learn about that sort of stuff, then i sugest you invest in a cheap computer and practice what you are trying to learn...

Anyhow cheers and there was some good reading in this thread.

    Cheers.

    yea cheap can mean cheap,

go to a local industrial estate. find out hardware in skips, university skips are good to.

a computer recycling scheme are often willing to sell computers for next to nothing, flea markets and computer fairs

just get the base unit and use your monitor and keyboard a little slower but can save a few quid

relatives and friends can be a good source of used hardware,
