    PGP/OpenPGP is a public/private key cipher. It's used for OpenPGP is the most widely used email encryption standard in the world. It is defined by the OpenPGP Working Group of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Proposed Standard RFC 2440 ( http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2440.txt ). The OpenPGP standard was originally derived from PGP (Pretty Good Privacy), first created by Phil Zimmermann in 1991.

    The OpenPGP Alliance is a growing group of companies and other organizations that are implementers of the OpenPGP Proposed Standard. The Alliance works to facilitate technical interoperability and marketing synergy between OpenPGP implementations.
