Infinium Labs: Phantom Gaming Console
I have been hearing a lot about this console for some time now and I am finding it pretty interesting as to the developers approach to designing the console. First and foremost, there is NO CD/DVD drive.
The system will also ship with parental controls, although such software is far from the system’s only security measure. Shambro said hackers shouldn’t even bother trying to crack the Phantom, because Infinium Labs has physically designed the system with security in mind. "Security is job one. Every possible measure is being taken, hence no CD/DVD drive.
The console will also be running one of its competitors software
The Phantom will be configurable a la a Dell [PC], providing the latest and the most robust platform available, [and] it will run Windows XPe
Games will be come pre-loaded with options. =/
With no game disks, distribution of Phantom games will be relegated to pre-loaded games, game subscriptions and e-purchasing options
If I am spending cash on a console I want hard copies of my games.

I wonder what will happen when "attackers" sniff the broadband connect as people download the software. And I wonder where game saves are kept (doesn't seem to be mentioned in the article).

And I wonder where game saves are kept
I know, it would be a real shame to be spending the money on these games to only lose them if for example your system shorts out, and to be so heavily relying on a broadband connection bothers me also. When the cable goes out = no more gaming goodness.
It all sounds good on paper.....wait, no it doesnt. =)

Well, I'm wondering if it has a hard drive. Which if that's the case, it wouldn't take someone too long to pry the box apart, boot up the HD and figure some hack some how.
If it doesn't, then it's stored somewhere in memory and thus, I would think, would be victim to power outage/battery failure.
