yahoo groups
hello everyone,
you people must be knowing about the yahoo group that was banned by the indian government...
http://www.rediff.com/search/2003/sep/23yahoo.htm
http://web.mid-day.com/news/city/200...mber/64623.htm
due to just one group, all the other groups are suffering... the access to all the Yahoo! groups homepages has been blocked in India...
any suggestions or comments on this are invited...

Interesting... I wonder if someone will challenge them in a court of law. No necessarily just on freedom of expression but what about privacy? The gov't is reading messages from a mailing list in effect.
As for suggestions, find another group or a private mailing list.

yeah move your gruops somewhere else..they cannot stop everything. I dunno what the laws are like there, but this is a free speech issue. but if you have no laws protecting that then oyu have no other choice but to either physically move or move the groups to another site

If you go to www.cexx.org and click on "beat goverment employee censorship" it will bounce you through a US proxy that will allow you to read at the very least (it was originally made for aussies , i guess the goverment there doesn't like their employees to surf pR0n and such)
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

hi riya.. it's a darn shame indeed that yahoo groups is being blocked..
as for me, I think yahoo groups are a bit overrated (to be nice) there's always some spammers coming around putting in links for porn or some personal site..
the best suggestion is to start your own forum.. and control who comes in..
but that can be a daunting task if no one in your group(s) hasn't had previous knowledge or experience.
i did a liitle searching on google putting this in for search parameters.. "free groups" like yahoo groups
looking through that I found this.. http://www.everywherechat.com/
it's primarily a java chat place but they have a section called "EWC Groups"
EWC now allows you to create your own groups! A group is an area where your friends and members can come together to chat with each other or post to your own message forum! You may have used groups on sites like Yahoo!and MSN!
Click here to see a list of active groups!
http://groups.everywherechat.com/
Click here to create a group!
http://groups.everywherechat.com/com...roup.asp?gid=5
now from what i read so far.. it sounds pretty good but it wouldn't hurt to see if there aren't more places like this searching through google a bit more..
good luck
edit : here's another one. http://www.smartgroups.com/
