Apple scripts should be very similar to scripts written for *nix systems considering they both can use the bash shell(doesn't apple use a bash shell?). I have not read any books but there are many great sites out there on shell scripting. Here is a source I like, if you already have experience with scripting it probably won't help you, but I am a newb and it helped me a lot: http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/linuxcommand.....html#contents
Hope that helps you.

Which Mac OS is it? Pre-OS X (OS 9 and earlier) or OS X? http://www.apple.com/applescript/ <-- you are referring to this eh? I think the link I've put here will probably give you all the answers you need.

Yes but the resources section has a fairly decent listing including Danny Goodman's Apple Script book (more info and scripts found http://www.dannyg.com/pubs/index.html )
I believe he wrote that for OS 7 or 7.5. Good luck at finding it in print version.
