Adobe, Macromedia on Linux

I hate M$. I hate Windows. I love Adobe. I love Macromedia. I've had 2 major crashes with xp pro in the past 2 months, and I want to move to linux because its more reliable, but I need to use photoshop, golive and flash. Are these programs available for linux, RH9? Or are there any programs that are very similar or equal to them? Please help, I'm gonna lose my mind. Oh yeah, I like winamp too, haha.

I don't believe they have it for Linux but check out their respective websites for more details: http://www.macromedia.com and http://www.adobe.com . For winamp you can use a utility like xmss. An alternative for Photoshop is The Gimp.

You could also run the original programs in Linux using Wine and perhaps Cross Over Office. I use Pagemaker through this method. Still relatively new technology and I'm going to try playing with Scribus soon (dtp linux product).

Adobe products are probably coming shortly (less than 18 months) to Linux due to it's increased popularity in
the publishing and animation/graphic design market.

This past summer we did some contract work for a visual arts studio that made the switch from IRIX to Linux. I was
surprised to see how many high-end commercial graphics products are already available for Linux and how
good they were. By the way, any of you visual arts types ever used SoftImage|XSI? These guys are very talented,
but all of us (the unartistic Unix contractor types) were blown away by some of their concept work they showed us
using this product.

I haven't used the SoftImage product but have played with Maya. Both are similar in what they do. It's not the product that is amazing, it's the artist. I used to be a student at Sheridan College, which is *THE* college to go to for cartoon and computer graphics in Canada. They have a direct link with Disney. Some of the artwork they did was incredible.

I've also visited my aunt when she worked on Lexx the TV Series and got to meet with the CG guys. Impressive stuff.

I would definitely agree, the artists are truly talented people. The visual arts products that are available these
days allow them to express that creativity and talent in amazing ways. One of the artists was a young woman
from Japan, here personal portfolio had some work that was truly "photo-realistic". When she showed us a
rendering of a Cannon camera she did, it looked like a high resolution photograph, not something worked up
on a Wacom tablet. Amazing.
