On the Red Hat point - It is not free, but I would suggest looking at the fedora core -

    http://fedora.redhat.com/

Since this is a very acceptable alternative to RH9 - It's still a little in it's infancy, but more and more stuff is out there for it as RPMs

I'm just waiting for a nessus RPM at the moment since I'm too lazy to compile it.

    Yeah, for the work laptop.

I have little free time at the moment so an RPM is very quick & easy.

Thanks Irish, another witty commentary about something you know nothing about.

    Care to enlighten us?

EDIT: Granted, it is a little difficult for one such as myself that has been milkfed on windows to make the transition, but come on. It only took me 8-10 tries to get Debian working...but I learned something in the process.

Burn yourself a copy of Knoppix...don't be scared...then come back with an opinion that is based on something other than fear of the unknown.

(my apologies to libertie for hijacking your thread)

Somewhat off topic, but I did notice the comment that "this has been answered 2 million times before" and so on.

I am not criticising people who say that sort of thing because they are correct ...technically.

My observation is that these questions, and ones like "what is the best firewall", "what is the best AV", "which is the best MoBo/Processor" are going to be repetitive?

If I do a "google" that gives me stuff recommending PIIIs, I am not going to be that confident on the advice?

The truth is that the answers probably change on a monthly if not weekly basis?

As a generalisation (so it is bound to be incorrect) I would suggest that "best" together with any hardware or software, is probably a valid question?

I am no different from anyone else who gets bored with repetitive questions, but in these circumstances I do believe that the answers can legitimately change?

OK soapbox rant mode = "off" (1)

    Cheers folks
