In my honest opinion, which agrees with the majority of people's opinion in here, is that Dells are "okay". They're probably not so suitable for the computer savvy person who just wants to build a gaming machine, however, in the corporate world, I, along with the company I work for has found Dell great to work with.

We support over 4,000 desktops, 100 laptops, and over 450 Dell servers, as well as other media (robotic tape backup, NAS, etc) and have had great success with them and their support. Now I'll have to agree with their Tech support, they aren't very "smart" if you want to call them that, they read from a script, as most call center's do, but if you really want to get more bang for your buck, you can go and take some tests on their website for Premier Access, and order all your parts online for any system you'd like, as well as get quotes, and quickly might I add.

I guess in summation, I would say for a large corporate business, Dell is better suited, just because you don't want to spend time building an individual PC for 4,000 users, and then build the servers as well : ) (duh) Of course we've had a couple bad apples, but when you talk about the volume of business, at least that our company does, it suits us just fine to have to send back 1 out of the 200 we get.

Might I add, those suckers are pretty durable too. IMO

Okay now nobody laugh at me please we just bought an e-machine a little while ago and it came with its own built in spyware. There is a program built into it called "big fix" wich should be renamed "Big Brother". It suposedly helps you keep everything updated. It also throws a major coniption(sp) fit when you try to install third party security software such as AV and FW proggies. I suggests that you just use windows firewall and norton Av wich comes with a trial version on the machine. If you try to use any other AV soft sygate pops up that "big brother" is trying to call home. Hrmmmm. Now i dont know exactly what kind of problems were being had with the dell but my main point is that dell is not the only company you need to watch

People, spyware or no spyware Dell suck. My inspiron is less than 13 months old and it will be unuseable in a few more months. The lid is cracked to hell at the hing pivots due to piss pore assembly. My calls to tech support have been ignored and so have my emails. I'm being told that this is acceptable where and tare and it will not be fixed under warrenty. Eventhough i contacted Dell befor my 12 months was up.

I will never by anything form them again, and if i have my way no one i no will either.

With any product you are going to have a few people will curse it to death. Even if 9 out of 10 people are very satisfied with it.
As far as my experience goes, I find Dell computers to be one of the best buys if you aren't going to build it yourself. After tooling around in numerous computers between friends and families to help them upgrade or repair them, no other brand I have come across is better laid out inside. I have had no problems with mine that I haven't caused myself.
And please, for the love of God, do not buy a Gateway. Now those, are pieces of ****.

Okay, this is may chance to dis Dell.

    IMHO they are useless idiots.

Last X-Mas I wanted to buy a PC for home - first home PC I'd owned in 6 years.

I had a 20 minute argument with them regarding discount for not having windows installed. - I didn't want it & they insisted I had it becuase it was 'free'. I told them I was not naiive enough to belevie that micro$haft were not charging them.

Then while watching the progress on their website it turned out my order was delayed because they couldn't get the dvd +rw drive - so I phoned with a view to upgrading to something they did have in stock so that I could get my order for X-mas and the blithering idiot on the end of the phone would not even put me through to a salesperson so I could arrange this.

    So I cancelled my order.

The b*stards at Dell still send me marketing propaganda in the post and I can't stop them, depsite having signed up to the UKs mailing preference service for not of this mail, 3 phone calls, 5 emails, 2 letters and an offensive fax.

I used to order exclusivley Dell kit for work.

Who would like to guess if I still do that.
