About 1st Page 2000...
Just noticed 1stPage2000 mentioned up there. Seems my copy got whacked with some virus in a button folder module called "six buttons from hell...", a trojan that i can't remember it's name. So, i thought it must have got whacked sometime when i was reloading the box and hadn't reloaded my AV program, so deleted the whole file folder since McAfee couldn't delete or quarantine the virus. So, went on back up to Evrsoft and downloaded a fresh copy. Guess what? Yeah, the same trojan in the same six buttons from hell. Just thought i'd mention that in case you have a copy. Been awhile. Good to see y'all again. Regards.

That's strange, I've used 1st Page 2000 since it came out (although I don't bother much anymore) and it's always been fine for me wherever I've downloaded it from. I did hear rumours of a trojan implemented in the official download a while ago though.

I have also used first page 2000 for quite a while... the six buttons from hell trojan is reported by most virus scanners as JS trojan windowbomb - it's not actually a trojan but its a joke javascript that open up loads of windows.
Don't forget that the authors of FP2000 are/were students - the inclusion of the JS was seen as funny.... it's not anything to worry about as such but if you're really worried by it just delet the template - it's not needed by the main program at all
might want to check this

and note
When the Trojan runs, it opens a Web browser window and displays six buttons and the following text:
Six buttons from hell Clicking on any of these buttons will really cause you pain...Buttons [Everything in herer will KILL your browser.
If you click any of the buttons, it goes into an endless loop, and repeatedly displays the same message. There is no harmful payload.

Ahh, you see I never used anything other than the text editor facilities, so I would never have come across any problems with the included JavaScripts.

no I never used any of the javascript functions either - the only reason I found out is because I was doing a full virus scan of the HDD about 18mnths-2years ago and it flashed up. Like you pwaring I don't use first page any more as my main editor (for no particular reason) but it's still quite a nice HTML editor IMHO.

Thanks ZW for the info and link, a very good answer. Yes, i knew the authors are/were students, very clever ones i might add as i always liked 1p2G, even over the expensive offerings out there. When they started the new (not yet out) version they asked if we'd be willing to buy (vs. free) an improved version. Most of us replied in the affirmative. Must have changed crews since then, or key people graduated and went on to other things because the next version is still on the stove somewhere. They also got into a testy discussion with someone over the name which i for one thought was nothing short of blackmail because the "name" was not even close to the product of whoever was using the synonym as i recall looking them up.
If they get back to the project, and put out their "new & improved" version i'll definitely buy a copy just to help them pay their tuition for work they did in years past, it's a good piece.
In the meanwhile i've deleted that part of the program and will use it, notepad, and the html editor that comes with Mozilla 1.6... just five bucks for the disk in snailmail, or free as a download. The t-shirt isn't too bad either.
Thanks again.
