    Hi Prod~,

I was using American dollars, as this is an international site, and the good ol' greenback is the best international currency indicator IMHO..................Sterling can show weird local fluctuations? I won 1x50 and 1x100 Sterling, so it should pay for the beer this week-end?

I approve of what you are saying, as I read the post very carefully:

we have this project in our computer class about hacking, viruses etc. i just hope you guys could help me. basically, what i need to do is to describe how one person (hacker) can get into the files/hack another computer
He is asking HOW IT IS DONE.................not how do I do it.............now if I were to give him negative points, it would be for cheating, and trying to get us to do his project for him...............but he is not doing that.................I would actually give him credit for coming to what should be the right place, and asking a sensible question...............that is why I gave him positive points to counteract the negative ones that he had recieved (I did not realise that my "fire control" is locked on to the 16" turrets ) my intention was to centralise his position.

Anyway, if he would post the brief that he got for his summer project, I for one would be glad to help.

If he actually is a nasty Troll, then the information will be useless anyway............but I know that he is NOT!

    My views...............fire away folks

Hey Prod~................I know you were not being specific, you made some general comments that I happen to agree with, in particular:

Edit: Come on people this person could be legit about wanting to learn how to hack give people a break for a change
It is "school summer project" season, so I would expect these sorts of question.............?

OR, I can come to a security site like AO, where people talk about malware, exploits and suchlike. How they are done and how to stop them................now that kind of info might just get me an A+ for my project, whilst the source code for SubSeven would get me an Omega-
Yes, that makes sense when you put it that way, still, one has to judge what response is given to
    such requests.

Wish i knew "How To Hack"

Hope you dont spend all that money on grog nihil i think you should buy the missus some flowers and maybe dinner....

queenzy, hi. I am a newbie here too, and so maybe I can give you a few tips. If you are serious about using this site to learn then you need to spend a few hours reading. I am a baby as far as computers but I have found the people here very helpful and extremely knowledgeable but you have to learn how to conduct yourself. Read the FAQs, go to the tutorials, read anything that might be relevant, learn the dos and donts. From these you will be directed to more sites and keep going. If you have the patience and the time you will learn much. And you will keep from getting flamed(as I did, and rightfully so). Good luck.
Leaving the ladder, one may fall up.

    queenzy,

You really do need to give us the brief (instructions) you were given for the project . And VERY IMPORTANT how long (number of words/pages) it is supposed to be. That will give us an idea of the level of detail.

To start of with I would strongly recommend that you define the terms hacker and hacking. The reason that I say this is because the term has changed in meaning. Originally a "hacker" was a technical expert who thoroughly understood his architecture, environment, operating system and applications and could be relied upon to deliver solutions that were "not in the manual"

Hence the expression "he couldn't hack it" for someone who failed to do something.

I would then go on to discuss "ethical hacking" and "non-ethical hacking". An example of the first would be vulnerability assessments, and an example of the second would be stealing credit card details.

Depending on the scope and size of the paper you may want to discuss the motivation for hacking, and its impact on society/the economy.

Once again, given your scope and the current political climate you may wish to include "cyber terrorism"

    Key words to search for:

    Vulnerability
    Exploit
    Trojan
    Back Door
    Keylogger
    Phishing
    Social Engineering
    Worm
    Network Aware Trojan
    Remote Access Trojan

Start off by building a schema for your paper, with "bullet points" that you will expand upon and include in a sort of modular fashion.

An old IBM training department trick:

Tell them what you are going to tell them
    Tell them
Tell them what you have just told them.

After you have started with a definition of the scope of your paper and the key terms you need:

    1. A strong introduction
    2. A strong conclusion

First and last impressions count much more than the middle, and make the difference between a B and an A

    Hope that helps
