Is it just netstat that doesn't work? or is it other network commands through dos as well?
how about ping, tracert , and ip config. Do they function or do they have the same problem.

Are you useing netstat from the command prompt..ooops DOS Window?

OR are you using it from the RUN command? and why was it on your desktop? You would have been able to see where it was just by looking at your Desktop..

    C:\WINDOWS\Desktop>netstat -n
    Bad command or file name
so is the file still on your machine.. or is it that you can't get it to work..

    Cheers

Question Are you attempting to run netstat

    from a DOS shell?

It could be your PATH environment variable is not picking up the location of netstat, or that you've saved it in the wrong place?

A step by step break down of what you were doing, just before this problem occurred, would help us give you better advice.

    Try this:

Go START>RUN and type command and press <ENTER>
In the DOS shell window that opens type netstat -a then press <ENTER>
Then type path then press <ENTER>
Take a screen capture of the DOS shell window Press and hold <ALT> and then press <SCRN PRT> and then release both keys.
Paste this into Paint or something
save the file as a jpeg
re-post in this thread and attach the image file.

let us know, exactly where you saved the netstat file you extracted from Irongeek's zip file. You did unzip it didn't you?

I apologise in advance if I've been patronising - that was not my intention. I'm trying to help you, to help us, to help you resolve the problem.

I'm not sure what you mean, does it not work unless your present working directory is system32? In that case your path is ****ed up. Use the path command at the command line and tell us what is says.

    IIRC netstat.exe resides in c:\windows\command on Win9x. On NT4/2K/XP it's in c:\windows\system32.
