Who cares if you don't have anything to say to help him shut up.
Or if you do have something to say that would help but you don't believe him then don't say anyhitng the choice is yours.

I hate to dump my 2 cents in this late in the game, but here goes -
    1. it's not a cmos issue. pulling the battery won't work.

    2. We're not going to teach you how to hack a windows password. Either try the system restore from Dell, or better yet, call them and get a case number to take to Microsoft. There is a simple fix for the problem they can do remotely.

    3. Keep the 4 year old away from the computer. Wait until she can at least read. Spank her if need be.
Even a broken watch is correct twice a day.

Which coder said that nobody could outcode Microsoft in their own OS? Write a bit and make a fortune!

I will go with that.............it would be space, or the same letter/number/character......... but which one

I still suspect a forced powerdown and corruption.............. he did not mention a four year old..........

that is why I was confused to begin with.............I guess that you have never had to remove a digestive biscuit from a floppy drive

Well according to M$ this appears to be 'public knowledge'

How to log on to Windows XP if you forget your password or your password expires
    http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

    and of course
How to create and use a password reset disk for a computer that is not a domain member in Windows XP
    http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

Chances are that you didn't have a admin password and should be able to get in through just to remove the offending accounts password. Now on the other hand. Has your 4 year old been in any AOL commercials. I suggest you have them read the knowledge base articles and fix the system they so terribly disabled. I just hope they didn't permently change your homepage to crayola.com or hellokitty.com.

I tought my 4 year nephew how to turn on the computer, login to his account(the last picture) and to open MS paint. My family screamed at me, then a week later praised me. They have no idea what so ever of the destuctive force of nature I unleashed on them. god help them all.

I had a good giggle at the above. Both my daughters used our hifi as a piggy bank when they were young. One had one tape draw the other had the other tape draw. I only found out when i tried to play a tape one day. They had managed to stash about fifty pence in one and two pence coins

As for the topic, if the problem is bios related, ie. Bios password dell will only give you a fix if you are the registered owner. There maybe ways around that, but that is not for this forum to discuse (as mentuned befor)

If the problem is the login screen within xp, you have had some good advice given already. If you have problems using that advice come back to us with specifics.
What happens if a big asteroid hits the Earth? Judging from realistic simulations involving a sledge hammer and a common laboratory frog, we can assume it will be pretty bad. - Dave Barry
