Probably irrelevant, but go into your messages and look at the "message tracking" option. Might those 4 be messages that have not been flagged as read by the recipient?

That could cause them to "hang around" in the system, even after you have deleted them.

    just a wild guess

might have been - doesn't the 'stop tracking' button end that though when it deletes them from the message tracking folder?

Maybe that is the "bug"..................something odd like a user getting banned before they reply or putting you or you putting them on the ignore list.

Some days even wearing your lucky rocketship underpants doesn't help.

I hesitated hard before making this final post here, but decided that for the best interest of other AO members who might suffer the major brainfartitis I suffered from yesterday the solution might help.

    mnstrgrl solved the problem.

mnstrgrl in her infinite wisdom sent me a one line solution by PM, and caused me to admit publicly that I too am capable of newbie mistakes.

mnstrgrl told me to check my sent messages folder.

I deleted the 4 mystery messages. Problem solved.

    /me blushes, furiously.

That was my initial guess after reading the first line but you said you checked the folder so I didn't post thinking it was a weird internal problem but glad you figured it out, even though it was that simple. =P

Just got a couple off that believe it or not. Amazingly enough I've been razzed more here. I guess folks realize that 'stupid mistakes' happen every now and then. That's how we got the old 1=2 algebra equation with the nifty lil division by zero error hidden within it, how the Dems nominated Kerry, and how Florida can't count. Ah well. Razz away guys, I deserve it. Oh, send a hurricaine this way. We need the rain. Durrrrrrrrrrr.
