From the stranger than fiction end, mho. Illegal immigrants. Let 'em in, let 'em work, let 'em go back home wealthy - here's why:

1. Illegal immigrants usually work in positions the average American doesn't want. If I ever hear of a Doctor, Attorney, or *gasp* Congressman being an illegal immigrant, I might fuss about it. In the meantime, they're driving up our labor force skills and requiring us to be more knowledgeable about our work. Good competition never hurt.

2. Illegal immigrants *still* have social security and federal taxes withdrawn from their wages - this means they're contributing to a social program from which they can *never* draw anything back. This means more sugar in the bowl for the rest of us. Hand 'em faked papers with false work visas. Let them donate coin for my retirement and yours.

3. The people who're actually fussing about these immigrants coming forth and taking these 'bottom end' jobs are those who are either a - not motivated to improve themselves, or b - too stupid to improve themselves, or c - idiotic rednecks. Since I tend to be a very strong advocate of 'stupidity should be painful' and laziness is just stupid.....

4. The hispanic population in the United States is very close to becoming the largest minority. This is already true in Texas where I live, and it's true elsewhere. The african americans around here raise hell about it because they're no longer getting laws passed just for their benefit, and their representation within our government is rapidly dwindling while the hispanic side increases rapidly. Perhaps this will put an end to affirmative action and other racial oriented laws, and put us all once again on an equal footing. If it takes allowing an illegal immigrant couple to enter the US and have children who are then *legal citizens* here, so be it. Now this might be my own slightly racist upbringing coming forth here, but I've honestly never seen a stupid redneck burn a cross in a hispanic's yard. Perhaps even they can get along with our hispanic populace?

5. They have the best food besides Cajun that I've ever eaten. When combined with our own culture cuisine, the outcome (tex-mex) just rocks. Yes, this is a stupid reason, but this is my post, and my opinion. Feel free to disagree if this is the only thing you can disagree with.

6. One of the funniest things I see these days involving Hispanics is when my good friend who happens to be a full blood Cherokee, is approached and spoken to in Spanish. He speaks only american, and becomes quite offended. The hilarity in this is that he himself cannot see the physical similarities between the two races while everyone else seems to have that ability. Ok, how does this apply to illegal immigrants? Well, I'm not sure here but let's see - they look like some of us, they work as hard as or harder than some of us, they're just trying to make a living like we are, raising families and feeding them, and improving their lives, and they're contributing to our society with culture, cuisine, and money. We waste how many millions trying to stop them at the borders? Why not let them in for free into our 'great melting pot' ?
