Hi

I am trying to find a tool that will tell me if any new computers have been plugged into my enterprise network, without making a lot of unnecessary noise. Does anyone have any suggestions?

i guess you can inventory & track MAC addys, and keep track of new addys that appear.

is there an automated way to do this? that would send an alert to me as soon as new device is plugged in.

yup. that'll do it.

webgurl13, why do you want to do this? just filter by MAC and don't allow unauthorized MAC's to use your network if you want to control.

I was tasked to find a solution that will meet the following:

The end-goal is a product that can identify anyone plugging any resource into any subnet across the Enterprise. The product needs to have a robust management console or integrate with one of our existing mgmt consoles. The product needs to live on the network…no polling every 20 minutes, but actually live and report when a resource is connected or disconnected. If the resource is authorized, no alert would be fired. If the resource is unauthorized, an alert would be fired and the resource would be quarantined or not allowed to connect. The resources could be a switch, printer, scanner, router, copier, fax, etc.

Of course, with the lowest price point possible. :-/
