anyway - don't use telnet, it is not secure, it sends everything in plaintext, and there are free ssh clients out there (putty, ssh.com, etc...)

HTTP, SMTP, telnet, pop3, FTP, proxies, IRC, TFTP are also not secure then.

Hell, we all knew that. That's why you don't send pwds over HTTP without encryption. That's the whole point of HTTPS.
