Yes they do recycle ........................but they give you a looooooong time
What happens to dormant accounts?
Answer
Dormant accounts are email accounts that have not been logged into for an extended period. If the account owner doesn't log in for nine months, Google will delete all messages in the account, close the account, and recycle the username. Other free web-based email providers delete dormant accounts after as few as 30 days.
Please note that if you have a dormant account that is deleted, Google cannot guarantee that you will be able to use your previous username again once it has been recycled.

ah.. im sure anyone could check their gmail at least once everyone nine months !
Thats good. i think the reason behind gmails 'extended' activity period, is because the design behind gmail was archiving and not day to day mail, which is hotmail and other free providers.

Hmm.. I've got 6 invites in case anyone is interested. Although probably everyone has one by now, judging by how many invites have been flying around already.
