I'm not so much of an elitist about it, but I use Gentoo mostly. It does what I need, and has none of the package dependency problems I experienced with RPM based distros and Debian based distros. However I'm willing to try most any OS (trying FreeBSD right now), so I don't view myself as an elitist.

And I don't think it's a secret anymore that Microsoft use Solaris and Free BSD internally. Every person I've ever talked to that has been inside a Microsoft building has told me the horror within. I don't believe every word of it but it doesn't seem to much of a shock either.
I do remember the We have a way out ad. This was not Microsofts fault though. They were trying to sell the MS Server OS with Unisys's servers and had partnered with Unisys to do this. The website was hosted on Unisys's servers and not Microsofts. Unisys is a money grubbing company (like most others) that is selling servers with Linux and Windows.
I thought it was humorous as well.
One thing. Has anyone here been to the MS campus? You stop to take a picture and security guards march you off the premises. (If you dont work for Microsoft - its happened to me) So I would like to see any kind of evidence that MS is using Linux, Unix or a BSD. I would think that they would be stupid to not have a copy or two of other OS's to get ideas for their upcoming OS (or to steal ideas), but I highly doubt they would use any other OS for any kind of use in thier company.

Why the hell would they take you away for taking a pic? That's like War Games "No pictures in this room please"...
As for Gentoo....
Don't know, I just don't like it. I have a Free BSD box and it can do everything Gentoo can and more. And with less security holes. A while back I posted every day to a thread with new security flaws found in Gentoo. There were at least 1 a day and most of the time two, and sometimes up to 9. I couldn't believe it. Windows doesn't have that many.

Gore: You remember that guy who walked right into the MS campus and noone noticed him? Someone walked right onto the MS campus and into one of their main buildings and took a look at their computers. I think that was about a year before I went to the MS city (over 130 buildings - the place is huge) Now if you stop anywhere you have to have an appointment or a MS indentification card.

What about Windows ME? Well, you're right I guess, it reboots really well.
ME was a special project written so Grandma at a nice ripe age of 83 could go to K-mart buy a computer, hook it up with some minimal effort and then set online in a chat room all night with handles like kitten16, SweetBabe, FoxHunny etc. Then about the time she got bored the thing would crash and tell you that it can't start, then set there operating very efficiently as a dust collection device. In fact the code word for ME was probably DCD.

In all seriousness, I use what many others use. I use WinXP to play games, because for me it's become a toy OS. Even XP SP2, while certainly well stabler than many previous OSes (tho IMO Win2K Pro is more stable), it doesn't hold a candle in terms of productivity functionality to Linux. It's just my experience of it. I would rather take 40-50 seconds to reboot into Linux and do various tasks from there, even if only for 5 minutes.
Games are the only reason XP still exists on this box. This is not a bad thing, because 95% or more of the x86 Desktop PCs out there are running one flavour of Windows or another, and keeping one's skills up to date is a handy thing.
For my personal uses however, as I said above, it's been relegated to a toy operating system.

(And the biggest problem was that it don't suport my tuner) You can do so much things more but i'm still not a programmer and i don't need all that functions. But In the futer i plan to learn Linux!
