Gates endures PC crash

Despite suffering through an embarrassing computer crash that prompted jokes and guffaws, Bill Gates promised that Microsoft Corp. would help consumers stay plugged into technology, during a keynote speech Wednesday.

During a demonstration of digital photography with a soon-to-be-released Nikon camera, a Windows Media Center PC froze and wouldn't respond to Gates' pushing of the remote control.

Later in the 90-minute presentation, a product manager demonstrated the ostensible user-friendliness of a video game expected to hit retail stores in April, Forza Motor Sport. But instead of configuring a custom-designed race car, the computer monitor displayed the dreaded "blue screen of death" and warned, "out of system memory."

ouch, isnt exactly what you would want especially when their displaying next generation technology... I would not be impressed at all. Especially when Xbox Media Centre never crashes on me except with codec issues.... Long Live OSS

I'm assuming this is the new Microsoft marketing compain. Realality television has become so big they wanted to showcase how windows performs in every day to day situations.

This isn't a new thing. It's happened before at other events. One big example was during the roll-out of Windows NT at Comdex (now, that was embarassing to have happen at the largest Computer Trade show). Perhaps Murphy's Law doesn't like Windows..

NT wasn't the only one, I'm surprised no one brought up the Windows 98 incident. LOL, I have it on video, he was demonstrating Windows 98's Plug and Play features so they were up there and hooking in a scanner and the guys says "Well it's going to say hey I see you've put a scanner in" and then it will be ready to use, instead, as Bill Gates was standing there, it BSOD on them and the whole audience was like Ohhhhh HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA.

Bill Gates then says "I guess that's why were not shipping Windows 98 yet".
