hi geeks..
i have a question again..
well i wanna know if i have access to the smtp server of a institution.
n i wanna know the internal network infrastructure of that institution..
how is it possible..
n also how to take preventive measures against such access..
bcoz the smtp sever is of my college n i wanna tell them that they are vulnerable to spam n snort attacks..
help me out..

if you want to know if you have access try logging on

the internal network is none of your f'ing biz

spam n snort attacks? tell them. they deserve a laugh too. (fyi: sort is an intrusion detection system not a tool for attacking)

but if you want to find out if their running an open relay look into SamSpade

- access to the smtp server of a institution - if you are an authorized member of the institution, and given the proper rights, you could access such e-mail account (granted to you) via the SMTP Server. How will you plan to exploit vulnerability on spam attack? Is that the queston?

well as per snort attacks i was saying is that in snort we defined some rules for the network..
n if its not properly configured its often used to exploit the SMTP server..
well as well as authrity is concerned it shows

AUTH = LOGIN

n in that i can try all the commands..
moreever well i don't know much to code for MTA'S n MAU'S..
soo wen i type ehlo it gives me all the parameters ..
n with that information i can exploit it easily..
soo if u guys can give me sites for some good smtp articles sites..

get a legal email account from that institution.
If you want to know their infrastructure from the outside, there are ways to do that using smtp.
