MS buying Claria?
http://www.infoworld.com/article/05/...yadware_1.html
Claria is known for its Gator adware. It changed its name from Gator in 2003. Claria's other products include a Web browser toolbar called DashBar and a personalized weather information service called Weatherscope, which offer free services in return for users accepting the display of advertisements based on their Internet usage.
so first they buy the company that gets rid of stuff like this...and when that starts to get too hard to keep up with they decide to just make the adware?

Saw this over at BBR: http://www.broadbandreports.com/shownews/65091
If they intergrate this into their OS or some other less than honorable "solution", I'm going to seriously think about switching to Linux.
Then again, nothing has been finalized. Let's hope they don't do anything rash.

Looks like our worst fears may be realized:
Microsoft Downgrades Claria Adware Detection
Amidst rumors they might buy the company
Spyware researcher Eric Howes stops by our Security forum to point out that Microsoft has downgraded its detection of Claria spyware in its latest anti-spyware version update (#5731). This of course comes the same week rumors began to emerge that the company might be buying the adware company once known as Gator.

I've recently been testing the MSAS beta, however I think I'll just stick with SBS&D and Sunbelt from now on.
