``If the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition into the target zone on China's territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons,'' Maj. Gen. Zhu Chenghu, a dean at China's National Defense University, told visiting Hong Kong-based reporters.

It's not really news. He just says they would use nukes in self defense
Some times they talk tough, just like we do, just to clarify the issues.
There will be no China-US conflict over Taiwan. The issue was decided thirty
years ago. China will "eventually" reassert sovereignty over Taiwan, with US
    approval.
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

Here is a different twist. If China were to exchange nukes they would be obliterated and we would still have a large capability. There are many that would survive on either side but we have more disperse metropolitain areas than they. We have more of a decentralized government that can take control via state statutes etc.

I see nuking US a big problem from my point of view:
1.) China loses one of it's major buyers
2.) China loses profit anywho because a lot of countries rely on the US a lot for many things and their economy will also go down (Look at what happened on 9/11, look how many countries are still sufring from it, including where I live)
3.) China loses a lot of their kind because there are a lot of chinese in the US, hell they even have their own street in New York called China Town.
4.) China will lose a great allie (Don't know if they still are allies due to this)

Note: This is my opinions, they aren't 100% accurate since I haven't been TOO into the news lately but, you see where I'm heading with this.

This is probably just a knee-jerk reaction by some hard-line Chinese to the new decision by N. Korea's Kim to want a nuclear free peninsula.

Edit: for those who'd like to see what the Chinese News Daily has to say...

North Korea wants a nuclear-free peninsula

North Korea's ultimate goal is a nuclear-free Korean peninsula and it would have no use for nuclear weapons if the United States were friendly, Pyongyang's top delegate to inter-Korean talks said.

"The denuclearization of the Korean peninsula was the last will of (the late North Korean) president Kim Il-Sung and that's our ultimate goal," North Korean chief delegate Kwon Ho-Ung was quoted as saying during the talks.

I would liken this to my little Jack Russell Terrier. When I wrestle with my Shepard, the little Terrier will always do something to try to gain my attention so that I will play with him instead. His favorite technique is to drop his tennis ball on my foot repeatedly until I make an attempt to pick it up. He then grabs the ball and runs just out of reach and begins teasing me, “See my ball, you really want my ball, come play with me and get the ball!” If I ignore him he will continue to bounce the ball off me to get my attention. He is quite aware that after awhile, I will give him attention.

Some countries are playing the exact same game. They want attention drawn to them. There is a worldwide scramble going on to be recognized as a powerful nation. The method and flavor of the day is: “Envy”. In this case “Nuclear Envy”. This is a classic example of a page right out of the North Korean playbook. “See my toy. You want my toy. Come play with me on my terms!” And obviously it worked:
the new decision by N. Korea's Kim to want a nuclear free pennisula.
    ~cheers~
