shouldnt i have more then 1mbps up and down?

hello everyone

heres my small problem

2 computers
both gigabit *10/100/1000* ethernet
cables handle 10/100
router handles 10/100
shouldnt i have more then 1mpbs *not even that* over my network??

1 computer is running slackware 10.1
other is windows xp pro

my thoughs is samba might be slowing it down alittle bit... if i start up a NFS do you think i will get more speed?


P.S. i have been searching google and still am... not the greatest luck

I have no real idea as to your answer but I would ask: what are you using to measure your actual speed?

Also, what is the "B" in bps.............bits or bytes...........remember that there are 8 bits in a byte

i couldnt tell you.... im reading what konqueror had as output "970.36 kbps

I would check for duplex mismatches.

Like make sure auto negotiation is enabled.

Maybe even try manually setting it to 100Mbps Full Duplex

One thing you could do to test it is start up apache and put a file in there then download that from your windows machine. or vice versa start up IIS on your Xp machine then wget a file over your network from your linux machine.
