The problem is that you get a lot of people who are more hooked on the act of protesting than actually giving a sh** about the issues involved. If they did think about it for a minute, they would realise (as people have already pointed out) that soldier follow orders and it is simply destructive protesting against them.
I personally consider myself to be a pacifist, but I like to think that I know who the warmongers are and can have respect for soldiers, who lay down their lives for people they don't even know, whilst still being against the act of war.
