Cool World Map!
Check out www.die.net/earth for a very neat map of the world. It is updated regularly and in a few moments you can see hurricane Katrina going over the USA. (And some other bad weather areas.)
It also shows a large amount of desert in Africa and Asia. And if you look very closely, you'll see me waving to the sky from the Netherlands. (Hope you have very good eyes.)

I don't know what cool about that there is. Open up an atlas and you'll have abetter map. Now Googles Keyhole program is a different story

The only thing that really impressed me was how it showed what part of the earth was in daylight and what part was in darkness at the time.

Google Earth has resolution that allows you to see the carpets being munched in several major cities!

The cool thing -in my opinion- is that it shows you a simple overview of the current weather, world-wide. A week ago you could follow Katrina on these maps. It's not just a map, it's a global weather overview. The map itself is just generated by xPlanet but combining it with current weather information makes it nice to look at.

Just to add an interesting tangent since it seems to fit here - Nasa's got some good Katrina tracking shots on their site as well:
