Speak of the devil ...
We just got a notice from the RIAA about someone who has been sharing out music using AresWarez. The share has been active for just a few days. If it's a staffer, they get canned, of course, and turned over. If it is a student, they get turned over to the RIAA. We don't sheild or take the heat for anyone.

Don't think the RIAA comes over to your house. They just file suit and send you certified letters. Then an offer or a bill. Maybe if your bad luck holds, you get to meet one of their lawyers.
Gotta be careful with sharing. You filter torrents on the network, rapier57? Besides the official line, you got another take on the file sharing thing?
I enjoy the PBS and foreign documentaries (Adam Curtis's "Power Of Nightmares", for instance). Most movies are for 'scheissen' these days. Gaming's what's killing the movie biz anymore.

ah yes...the issue about file sharing. well, honestly i don't get why people love using file sharing...i personally don't like it.
previously (long time ago when i was quite young) when kazaa first came out i thought it was the best thing in the world! shortly after using it for a while i realized i never quite got what i wanted. only until later on did i find out how insecure and dangerous file sharing was..but it was already too late since my computer was already infected quite a bit [with some basic defenses on too] which basically overwhelmed my old computer.
anyway after a painful reformat the lesson was learned there yet i think file sharers today don't really care about a safe system. file sharing is dangerous and never fully satisfying. the results/downloads you usually get are incomplete and/or bad in quality, and/or usually have some malicious file hidden with it (As described previously and is no joke). to me its like a road leading straight into a hurricane (it's never safe and it will end up in disaster). also, to add onto the mayhem, most file sharing software products are bundled with malicious threats that may not be detected or be removed easily, which can be quite the problem. so basically, file sharing is not only extremely dangerous, but a bit hassle to deal with! not only is it illegal, but there are so many other issues you must review in order to keep your system alive! consider this: is it really worth it to put so much on the line just to get something that you could easily get for a few bucks?
well anyway, for me, i'd rather just go buy the actual product since there are so many upsides. you get all the great benefits/full features from the product with ensurement that it will be clean! not only that but prices are getting relatively low for a lot of stuff (like in this case for movie rentals, also for some antimalware products) and you wont have any legal issues at all! its a lot less hassle and a lot more secure, and i don't mind spending a few bucks just to further advance a little in life.
