    The phenomenon you have experienced is known as "chatroom booting" or "chatroom nuking", I suspect. I am not too sure how it works as I don't use them myself and would not tolerate them in the workplace, for security reasons.

    I am not sure why your machine misbehaved, I would need to be able to reproduce the incident to determine that it was not a freak, or coincidence.
