They were trying to be more Microsoft like. "Get the facts.... These facts were accurate when we paid these people to commission this paper"... lol.

Hi
I am wondering:
The Intel processor I'm using is able to calculate the SuperPI number crunching
benchmark to one million digits in about 100 seconds. It takes my Pentium 4 system
less than two minutes to figure out this benchmark, and the Pentium 4 is notoriously
bad at FPU calculations.
Does his machine calculate pi to one million digits faster when booted with
a linux system than when booted with a windows system, given the "same amount
of background load like services etc." ?
This is the question people using super computers really are worried about.
Super computer nodes often do not even have a dvd drive ... the two main
reasons, in my opinion as a (former) user and evaluator of super computers,
why linux is often used, are
a) administrators/builders, in particular in the scientific environment, are used to
linux (maintenance, writing drivers, ...)
b) the field of batch-queueing systems is much more mature in the linux world
( because of a)? )
Cheers

The funny thing is, what the author is ranting about isn't necessarily an OS bug. See The dangers of sleeping on a UI thread -- 'Your non-responsive hidden window has just created a "Windows seems to hang for a few seconds at random intervals" bug.'
