Yeah, sort of like when the inquisition wanted you to confess your sins, as they kept trying to drown you....

<LOL> Yeah... Like the witch hunters and the "chair"... Tie the prospective witch to the chair that's on a long pole over the village pond. Dunk the prospective witch in the pond. If the prospective witch floats... she's a witch... Hence she must be burned at the stake.... If the prospective witch sinks leave her there for a while to make sure she isn't faking and pull her up a minute or so later because now you know she isn't a witch.... Hang on... She drowned... Such a shame... Good job she wasn't a witch though.... we'd have had to burn her....

You really _have_ to wonder about the level of intellect of the dimwit that came up with that as a test.

Me thinks it was a way for the males to hide their infidelities, ya know label the old mistress as a witch and voila, your off the hook, let's face it the "Puritans" were a superstitious lot to begin with, anything that farted, was of the supernatural......
